“Pastor, things are getting out of hand, how do I get rid of this depression?”.
You don’t get rid of depression, you simply press towards something else, something not depressing. It’s true that the devil does not have the power to impose anything on us, however, our choices usually determine our mental and emotional state.
Phillipian 3:14 says, “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus”. In other words, you cannot get the prize or blessing without reaching the set mark, and you cannot reach the set mark without pressing. If you are not pressing towards the set mark then you would cheaply get oppressed by the devil, and the devil’s oppression is what leads to depression.
To press means to continue doing everything prescribed in order to get the blessings prepared. Continue in studying, praying, fasting, and “faithing”, until you receive the blessing or prize you need.
Depression blames an external force for its condition. It is like when an athlete decides to sit on a race track because the other competitors took off before him. If that’s the case, then question the reason for your depression. Perhaps you’re depressed because your parents didn’t pay your school fees, but who told you that your school fees has to come from your parents? Perhaps you blame the government for your joblessness, who told you that the government is the reason why you don’t have a job?
If I’d be honest with you, it’s not that hard! It’s not that hard to get a job, it’s not that hard to pay your rent, it’s not that hard to get married, it’s not that hard to start a business, it’s not that hard to get educated, it’s not that hard to receive healing, it’s not that hard!
However, what you don’t have has a direct connection to what you’ve not found and understood from God’s word. When your desires appear too hard to get, then it means you’re too soft on the word of God. Faith in God’s word gives you peace of mind, and ultimately makes your desires easy to get.
In Pro 4:20-22, the bible says, “My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh”. Did you notice where it says, “they are life unto those that find them”? That simply means there’s what to find from God’s word to live the kind of life you want.
So it’s not about what you want God to do for you, but about what you’ve found that God will do for you. As a matter of scriptures, the moment you find the word for your desired miracle, God releases the desire instantly. Didn’t the bible say “when you have found it, there shall be a reward”? Once again, it’s not that hard to get your desired miracle, you just need to find the word for it first. The first thing to do to settle any “impossible” need is to find a scripture for it. If you can find a word for it, then you won’t lack a solution to it.
However, if you ever think that God’s word isn’t working for you, then check the measure of His Spirit you carry. According to scriptures, God’s word is likened to a lamp, and if that’s the case, then it would certainly need oil to keep its fire burning.
Isaiah 34:16 says “seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them”. None of God’s word is permitted to fail, but that’s only if you acknowledge both the Commander and the Gatherer. Obeying the Commander without acknowledging the works of the Gatherer may not get you the results you desire. It’s one thing to command and another to gather.
Develop yourself in the word of God, but also develop your relationship with the Spirit of God. The Spirit of God goes anywhere the Word of God goes just to ensure that whatever is commanded is gathered. But if you don’t understand how He operates, you may jeopardize His operations.
Gaining a lucid understanding of this principle will veto the vicissitudes of your life. This is clearly why many believers are not doing well in their Christian adventure. They’re committed to God’s word, but they trivialize the possibilities that are only workable by God’s Spirit. When it comes to manifesting what God had said, the role of the Gatherer is Irrefutably needed.
That said, you really need to choose, because you are either in a pressing state or a depressing state. The moment you stop pressing, then you’d start depressing. If you don’t know what to press towards, press towards the promises of God, and do that with fasting and prayer. I wrote an ebook titled “Fasting To Get Results”; in it I shared how I pressed towards God’s promises regarding my financial stability. The transformation I experienced since that time has not departed from me till now. I recommend you read it.
As I conclude, no matter what happens, keep pressing. The pace may be slow, but you’d soon reach the mark, and then the prize will be released to you.
I hope this has brought enlightenment to someone.
Remain ever blessed, in Jesus precious name!
