Thank you for following… But let me tell you a short story…
It all started in March 2019, the growth and speed was overwhelming. I had crossed 150 thousand followers by the end of that year. 2021 had not ended when I crossed over 900 thousand followers. I was so convinced that I’d cross a million followers before the second quarter of 2022 commenced. I even posted it here with confidence.
To my amazement, from August 2021 till November 2022, I experienced several declines. I stayed on 954 thousand followers until followers literally began to unfollow my page. During that trying time, I tried to check other pages to compare what was happening, but it seemed it was a peculiar case.
I got discouraged at some point, so I had to seek the wisdom of God. Apparently, I had neglected the primary reason why God led me to create a page – which is to teach through writing; posting inspirational videos was something God introduced to support the teachings I do through writing.
Over time, the articles began to experience a decline in followership while the videos got millions of views in a short time. So instead of going back to God to receive wisdom to push the writings, I assumed God wanted me to focus on teaching through posting the video excerpts. That was my mistake.
On another thought, it’s a visual age, no one was really paying attention to reading – I even had people who told me that. All that made it really seem like God was directing my path. Again, this was my mistake.
So the root dried up, and it wasn’t long before the videos began to experience a decline in reach. Now that I think about it, the idea to post videos came because I was committed to serving God’s purpose, and since I stopped serving purpose, I couldn’t tap into the wisdom required to continue growing the spread of the videos I post.
To be honest, I was never fulfilled posting those video excerpts, but I couldn’t really place my hands on what was causing the displeasure. Remember I told you that I assumed God wanted me to focus on teaching through the video excerpts. Assumption is a terrible thing, believe me.
It took the intervention of a man of God to put me back on track. He called me to his office after a meeting and told me the same things God told me about writing years ago. He said, “God told me that He gave you a pen to write, and that he wants to use your writing to reach out to the world, and that he wants you to focus on it”. I wept and was sober all through that night, I understood what he was talking about.
I did a lot of reflection the next morning, and the more I remembered the lives that had been transformed through my writings in the past, the more I repented before the Lord. Even now, each time I receive testimonies of transformation from people for following my writings, I still repent before the Lord. I repent because only God knows how many lives I failed to reach out to due to my negligence.
My brokenness did something to my heart, the desire to reach a million followers died a natural death. Instead, I prayed to God to draw those who needs my writings. I prayed for wisdom to push the writings to more people. And yes, God began to inspire me with wisdom. As you’d expect, the video excerpts now benefits from that wisdom.
I clocked one million followers last week Saturday, and to be honest, there was no special feeling. I didn’t even post about it until I was inspired to tell this story today.
So just incase you’re wondering why I shared this story, I’d tell you. Focus on your primary assignment, not the attachments. Trying to grow the attachments without the primary assignment may frustrate you.
I hope this has brought enlightenment to someone.
Remain ever blessed, and thank you again for following.
