“Pastor, as a Christian, how do I become financially rich within my profession?”

I’m glad you asked, because many Christians haven’t realized that the equation for financial prosperity for a Christian is different from that of the world. The world only needs to passionately pursue their dreams till they develop products and services that can be monetized. But as a Christian, the first thing you must do after your salvation is to find your purpose in Christ. This is because, just because you studied Engineering in school doesn’t mean you have to work with an oil firm. God may want you to be a pastor who would use his engineering skill to build world class structures that will attract the world to the kingdom. Let me show you a few scriptures:

SCRIPTURE 1:

Ephesians 1:
11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will.

So yes, the moment you receive Jesus into your life, you obtain an inheritance, which is a purpose God had predestined for you. We must understand that the man from Adam and the man from Christ are two different people. Because of sin, the man from Adam could choose his own dreams and pursue them. That’s why you probably got a job in the hospital after you graduated with a first class in medicine.

The moment you become a man in Christ, your first class in medicine may serve a different purpose. For instance, I’m told that Dr Paul Enenche and his wife are both medical doctors, yet they are pastors of one of the largest churches in the world. Their medical skill wasn’t for the hospital, but for the church. The skill was meant to reveal the depth of health challenges a person can be in and to receive the required anointing to destroy them. Same skill, but different applications.

The reason why many Christians are struggling is because they’re pursuing their personal dreams instead of finding purpose first. I studied computer science and worked as an IT Support Technicians for several organizations. But the moment I came to Christ, I became a social media pastor. The same skill, but a different purpose in Christ. I can’t forget the day God called me to be a teacher. While in the conversation, I asked if He wanted me to open a physical church or become a pastor under a ministry, His response was that my platform would be online.

Stop trying to choose your own way, Psalm 47:4 clearly tells us that, “He shall choose our inheritance for us…”. The riches you desire are in His purpose for you. Take out time to ask Him what He wants you to do.

SCRIPTURE 2:

Proverbs 23:
4 Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom.

This is already a shocker. As a Christian, you’d never become rich as long as the purpose for your labour is to become rich. You have to cease from your own wisdom.

Your labour should be to understand your purpose and how to fulfill it. The next scripture will help you understand this better.

SCRIPTURE 3:

Ecclesiastes 2:
21 For there is a man whose labour is in wisdom, and in knowledge, and in equity; yet to a man that hath not laboured therein shall he leave it for his portion. This also is vanity and a great evil.
26 For God giveth to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but to the sinner he giveth travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him that is good before God. This also is vanity and vexation of spirit.

I saw this scripture for the first time yesterday during a Midweek service with Dr Isaiah MacWealth. Instead of labouring to be rich, labour to have wisdom, knowledge and equity. This simply means you should focus your energy on growing in God and His purpose for you. Study as much as you can study, both from your field of endeavor and history. Be vast in knowledge and understanding when it comes to your skill, purpose and calling. Don’t be a mediocre in whatever God has purposed for you, become a pro.

Labouring in wisdom is important because anyone who labours to be rich will eventually leave his riches for those who laboured in wisdom and knowledge. Verse 26 makes it clear, it calls a man who labours in wisdom a good man, then it says God allows the sinner to gather and heap up only to give to the man who is good before God. Now you’d understand some testimonies that has surprised you for long, one person builds a house, yet another person got it for free. A difficult challenge may have come upon the person that built it, and somehow the ownership of the house would now be transfered to a man who is good in God’s sight. Why labour for something that is already waiting for your ascension in wisdom and knowledge?

As I conclude, if you notice, I didn’t talk about giving and receiving, and that’s because labouring in wisdom and knowledge will reveal that to you and even more.

I hope this has brought enlightenment to someone.

Remain ever blessed, in Jesus precious name!
