“Pastor, I don’t have anything, how do I survive in this world?”

I understand how you must feel right now, but you also need to understand that you can’t come into abundance with that kind of mentality. Your negotiations in this kingdom must not be from a standpoint of lack and insufficiency, but from sufficiency.

In this world, people may pity you when you don’t have, but they enter a deal with you when you have something to offer. God has destined us to be the envy of many generations, not a pity. Don’t appear beggarly to people just because you want them to pity you, that’s not what God wants for His church. Let me show you a scripture:

Psalm 132:
13 For the LORD hath chosen Zion; he hath desired it for his habitation.
14 This is my rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it.
15 I will abundantly bless her provision: I will satisfy her poor with bread.

Zion or Mount Zion is the Old Testament church, when God says He has chosen Zion to be His habitation, it means the church has become God’s residential address. When people are looking for God, they should just go to the nearest church, they’d find Him there. Even better, they should go to the house of the nearest Believer in Christ, because Christians are temples of the Holy Spirit. That’s right! Asides finding God in the church building, the world should also find God when they come to you. Your life can literally become God’s residential address.

Verse 14 further tells us that the church will be God’s resting place forever, because of His desire towards her. If you’re a married man, recall how you felt when you found your wife, you desired her to be your resting place forever. And because of this, you did the same thing that God did in verse 15, you bought her provisions, and ensured that even the poorest in her family weren’t suffering lack and want perpetually.

So when God says “I will abundantly bless her provision: I will satisfy her poor with bread”, you should have an idea of the extent He’d go to bless the church. He’d ensure the church doesn’t lack provision, and even the poor among us shall be satisfied with food. Look at that, even the poor will not lack what to eat.

If this is the picture of the church, how then did you conclude that you don’t have anything, because even the poor has something to eat. Recall that the Widow of Zarephath had something to eat. As long as you have what to eat then you have what to offer, even if what you have seems to be the last. She offered the prophet from what she had, and she came into abundance.

You have to understand this, if she didn’t give from what she had, then what she had would have been taken away. Her life and that of her son would have been taken away by death, the possibility of coming into abundance would have also been taken away. Now you’d understand Matthew 13:12, it says, “For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath”. Look at that, the person who claimed he doesn’t have will now lose what he had. In other words, he had something he could negotiate with all the while.

Think about it, how did Hannah negotiate her way into having a son? She made or gave a vow. She vowed that if God gives her a male child, that the child would serve Him. That’s how to negotiate for abundance, present something that you have. I’ve shared the story of a pastor friend in Taraba State Nigeria, how that he entered that state with just 200 Naira. Life was really tough on him, and every attempt he made to succeed proved abortive. One day he decided to make a vow to God, he told God that if He’d bless him in that land, that he’d return ninety percent of all his income to Him as tithe. Lo and behold, his turnaround started. Today, he does business with Kings, governors and ministers.

Negotiating with nothing is not the way of faith. Carry your Bible, find scriptures that would help you negotiate better. If it is prayer you know how to pray well, then negotiate your abundance with your prayer energy. Pray for the church, pray for men of God, pray for the kingdom of God at large. I heard a testimony of someone who grew from zero to hero just by praying for Bishop David Oyedepo. He had tried all he could to succeed before that time, but all to no avail. A pastor advised him to start praying for God’s servant and he obeyed. To his amazement, his life changed in six months.

What do you have in your house? That’s the question Elisha asked that widow who came to him for help. If she didn’t have that cruise of oil, there would have been nothing to bring her into abundance. So start thinking, there has to be something you have that you can negotiate with.

Stop looking for free money everyday, think of something you can contribute to the life of that rich man that will attract a honorable pay, even if it is to wash his cars or tend his gardens. It’s just unfortunate that most young people are lazy, they want free and cheap things. The truth is, nothing of value comes cheap. Salvation may be free, but believe me, it’s reflection in your life is definitely not free. You’d need to invest years of diligence in studying and praying to build a good Christian character. That’s not cheap.
