“Pastor, I feel wounded and dissapointed. Despite my prayers, my two year old child came back from school yesterday with scars on her body”
I’m so sorry about the situation. You should immediately go to the school to find out what happened. Ofcourse you should express your dissatisfaction, but you don’t have to rage about it. Communicate it with peace and gratitude to God in your heart. As much as you won’t want to admit it, God still preserved your child.
Don’t be lost in the pain of being cheated, wounded or dissapointed that you lose sight of what God did to curb the situation. That’s right, oftentimes we nurse our wounds to a point where we start thinking or retaliation or punishing those who brought hurt to us that we forget that the situation could have been worse if God didn’t intervene.
I usually don’t like to say things like this, but it might interest you to know that the same day that your child came home with scars, some else’s child didn’t come home alive. You probably feel wounded only because you didn’t hear of other people’s children. Chances are that if you hear of the tragedy that happened to others, you’d be feeling thankful, not wounded. That’s how the human mind thinks, we feel bad for our situation but immediately become thankful to God when we see someone going through worse situations.
Think about the last time you were feeling a mild pain in your body and suddenly a stronger pain emerged from another part of your body. Notice that you’d no longer feel the milder pain, not because the pain stopped, but because a greater pain had set in.
As Christians, we should be conscious of the workings of our Lord Jesus Christ every passing day of our lives. The moment we acknowledged His Lordship over our lives, He ensured that all things work together for our good from that moment. Nothing ever happens to us for evil, God would turn it around for our good.
So in all things, give God thanks. Thank God because it wasn’t more than the scars. What if those scars degenerated to wounds? What if it was a charm they tried to use on your child that didn’t work? You really don’t have control over times and moments you know nothing about, only the All Knowing God does. So if you receive a displeasing news, before you express your displeasure, observe the situation and express your gratitude to God because it wasn’t worse. Complaining as though God didn’t do anything may put God off.
So just in case the fig tree does not blossom like in the case of Habakkuk, and there is no fruit in the vines, you should still rejoice in the God of your salvation. The moment you express gratitude, you’ve given God the go ahead to continue His good work on the matter. Like Habakkuk, He’d make your feet like hinds’ feet and make you walk upon high places. This means that what happens next in every situation depends on your gratitude to God for what He had done. Gratitude to God in all situations is very important, that’s why you should never lose sight of what God has done.
Having said that, a child that grows without a scar didn’t go through childhood, he was probably pampered, and that’s definitely trouble for the parents. I’m not sure there’s an adult on earth today who doesn’t have a scar that was sustained from childhood. Personally, I have two.
So if your child got into a childish fight, just plead with the teachers to be more careful with the children, especially at that age. I’m not sure a two year old child has started talking accurately. Changing the child’s school shouldn’t be an option, because the same thing would most likely happen.
Parents often find it difficult to cut the finger nails of kids at that age, so the scar on your child may be a result of another child tried to pull your own child and the nail got in the way. If that’s the case, then plead with the teachers or even head mistress to always check the finger nails of the children before admitting them into class daily. It’s too dangerous to keep their nails on.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying it can’t be something more, but I’m just saying you shouldn’t be too emotional about it so that you don’t make a mistake that will cost you. Don’t just do what is right, do what is wise.
I hope this has brought enlightenment to someone.
Remain ever blessed, in Jesus precious name!
