“Pastor, alot of people are owing me for my business, and they keep giving excuses. What do I do?”
Hmm, so the challenge isn’t that you don’t have clients or people don’t patronize you, it’s just that they hold back your money when it’s time to pay. Honestly, situations like this can be very disturbing, especially if the said clients have the money but are just being inconsiderate. However, it can also have its advantages.
I’m not a business coach, so I’d just give counsel based on a scriptural point of view. As a Christian, your debtors shouldn’t be at rest until they pay what they owe. They should be the ones calling and pleading with you until they pay. If the reverse is the case, then there’s something you’re not doing or there’s something you may be doing wrong. Let me show you a few things you should know.
– A DEBTOR IS SERVANT TO THE CREDITOR
Debtors are naturally loyal to creditors. Proverbs 22:7 specifically says, “…the borrower is servant to the lender”. The reason why the whites would often have their way with black nations is because most of these black nations are indebted to them in some way. The last I checked, my country is owing over Fifty Trillion Naira. But while you may think that the countries we owe are bothered about the debt, you’d be surprised that the debt is a leverage for cheaper business negotiations for them. You need to see how our people are treated as slaves in companies owned by white people in our country.
As Christians, if we’re really going to dominate the world, then we must understand that accumulating debtors isn’t a curse, it’s a strategy. Now you’d understand Deuteronomy 15:6; it says, “For the LORD thy God blesseth thee, as he promised thee: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, but thou shalt not borrow; and thou shalt reign over many nations, but they shall not reign over thee”. The mission is to get to a point where you lend to nations, not just people.
Think about it, wouldn’t it be easier to preach the gospel to someone that is owing you? Especially if it’s coming as a solution to their debt issue. The truth is, no matter how hard you push, some people would never be able to pay the debt they owe you except they receive Jesus. Give them Jesus, then mentor them on the financial principles of the kingdom. It won’t be long before they come out of debts.
Ofcourse there are stubborn debtors, they have the money, but they don’t want to pay, I’d show you how to deal with that. This first point is for the debtors that sincerely do not have a means to clear their debts, preach the gospel to them. You already have a leverage to rule over their emotions and conscience, take advantage of it.
– NEGLIGENCE TO KINGDOM ADVANCEMENT
Haggai 1:
2 Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, This people say, The time is not come, the time that the LORD’s house should be built.
3 Then came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet, saying
4 Is it time for you, O ye, to dwell in your cieled houses, and this house lie waste?
5 Now therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.
6 Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes.
7 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.
8 Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the LORD.
9 Ye looked for much, and, lo, it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith the LORD of hosts. Because of mine house that is waste, and ye run every man unto his own house.
10 Therefore the heaven over you is stayed from dew, and the earth is stayed from her fruit.
11 And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground bringeth forth, and upon men, and upon cattle, and upon all the labour of the hands.
I believe this is clear enough. Many believers are struggling to get returns in their business only because they’ve neglected the kingdom of God. They spend money on themselves but do nothing about God’s kingdom. The moment you start noticing struggle in recovering profit from your investments, consider your ways. It may just be that you’ve neglected God’s kingdom.
Two weeks ago, I noticed that an electrical appliance wasn’t working in my church area facility. After my attempt to repair it failed, I had to purchase a new one yesterday. To my amazement, a rich man that had been owing me for over a year now started calling me. I’ve never had to remind him about the debt, and he hasn’t called me since that time.
If your debtors are at peace, then there’s really something you’re neglecting. I recall how I received an alert early this year from someone that had been owing me for over 5 years. It came as a shock because I had forgotten both the money and the person. It was when he sent me a message that I remembered. In fact, from the way he communicated with me, he clearly wasn’t happy that he was owing me.
Now that I think about it, God knows that I’d pay tithe from any money that comes to me, He knows that I’d support projects here and there, so it’s not possible that He’d allow someone hold back my money. He’d definitely trouble them till they pay😂.
– DEPENDING ON WHAT PEOPLE OWE YOU TO SURVIVE
I learnt this very early while I was working with a firm that hadn’t paid our salary for three months. All my colleagues complained bitterly about it until I was tempted to join them. As I was about to talk, I heard the voice of God saying, “Have I not told you that I shall supply all your needs according to My riches in glory by Christ Jesus? If your salary was your need, wouldn’t I have made them pay?”. He was speaking from Phillipians 4:19.
That was the day I learnt that God has an agenda of prosperity for me that a million debtors cannot alter. No matter who is owing me and no matter how much they are owing, it doesn’t affect my living. In fact, the moment I loan people money or people begin to owe me for a service, I forget it. I only remember when they pay.
God isn’t depending on the money somebody is owing me to prosper me. If He is, how then do I lend to nations? Worrying over debts can hinder one’s progress. Just because you have a debtor doesn’t mean God’s word concerning your progress would be hindered.
I hope this has brought enlightenment to someone.
Remain ever blessed, in Jesus precious name!
