“Pastor, I’ve been speaking to my family to give their lives to Christ for years now, but they don’t listen, even with all my prayers. What else can I do?”

I totally understand how this must feel for you, especially if they still think you’re wasting your time being a committed Christian. However, just because they’re your family members doesn’t mean you must be the one to lead them to Christ. Even if you’d be the one to lead them to Christ, talking alone may not do the job. Let me show you a few scriptures:

SCRIPTURE 1:

Matthew 9:
37 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few
38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

I remember when I joined Winners Chapel in 2010, it suddenly dawned on me that I had been in the dark even though I was going to a church. That’s right! It’s possible to be going to church and still live in the dark. Not all churches communicate the light of God’s word. So I was attending a church, yet I was living in the dark until I joined Winners Chapel.

My family members fought me day and night for leaving the family church and even vowed that I was going to come back. When it became obvious that my spiritual life was now influencing my natural life, they had to let me be.

Few years later, I started praying that they’d also come to the light. Guess what? Nothing happened. It was after many years of unfruitful prayers that God revealed this scripture to me. So, instead of bothering myself, I simply started praying that God will send labourers to them, people who my family members will respect and listen to. Fast forward to a few months after I started praying that prayer, I heard that some of them had changed church. Years later, they’ve all changed church. I didn’t bother to ask them their transition story, I already know what happened.

So you can pray to God to send evangelists to your family members. As long as your family remains a harvest, then God can send labourers to reach out to them. All of a sudden you’d hear that your mother is now a friend to a pastor’s wife, or that your brother now walks with a Christian friend.

The good thing about this prayer is that God can send labourers to anyone anywhere in the world. So just in case your family members are not within reach, God can send labourers to where they are. It can be very stressful if you have to follow up on your family’s salvation by yourself, you need the intervention of other labourers.

SCRIPTURE 2:

Zechariah 8:
23 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; In those days it shall come to pass, that ten men shall take hold out of all languages of the nations, even shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying, We will go with you: for we have heard that God is with you.

The first scripture I shared would help you when you don’t have convincing results to show for your faith, but when you have results, prayer points and arguments will reduce. People will argue with you and refuse to serve your God as long as they can’t see His goodness in your life. Once they see His goodness, they’d hold on to your cloth saying “we will go with you, for we have seen that God is with you…”.

You won’t believe that my dad who spoke very mean things about Winners Chapel is now a member of the elders council in the same Winners Chapel. As we speak, he has gone through the three stages of the bible school. The day I invited him to church, he couldn’t resist because of the obvious results he was seeing in my life. He could see that God was really good to me, so he had no choice than to follow me to worship that good God.

Back then, when I invite my family members to church, they’d make all kinds of excuses and argument. But today, none of them argues with me when I invite them to my church. One of my cousins once told a member of my church that if the books I read could transform my life the way it did, then she was going to read all the books I read. Honestly, only a witch fights against results; a natural human being will be humbled to submit once he sees results.

SCRIPTURE 3:

Romans 10:
13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

We must be able to differentiate between “talking emotionally” and “preaching”. The Holy Spirit only works with us when we preach the gospel. Recall the disciples testimony is Mark 16:20, the bible says “as they went and preached everywhere, the Lord was working with them with signs following”. Sometimes when we talk to our relatives, it’s often from a standpoint of emotions, not necessary the Word of God.

Your talks must be scripture based, because that’s the raw material through which the Holy Spirit works in the heart of the unsaved. There has to be a preacher who would constantly communicate the love of God to the unsaved. Even if all you say is “Jesus loves you”, that’s a good preaching right there, the Holy Spirit can convict them through that simple statement.

So don’t just tell your relatives to come to church, tell them what the bible says about going to church. Don’t just tell them to stop begging, tell them what the bible says about begging. God confirms His Word, not your words.

Without any doubt, one or all of these 3 would help you bring your family to Christ and even to your church.
