“Pastor, I don’t know what to do again about getting a job, my faith is not working”
One of the greatest secrets about faith is that it is energized by love. Galatians 5:6 says, “For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love”. The Amplified Bible puts it this way, “For [if we are] in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything, but only faith activated and expressed and working through love”.
Did you see that? Faith is activated and expressed by love. That’s right! The faith you need to get a job, or even the faith you need to build a career, can only be activated and expressed by love. So the real question is, how do you know that what you’ve been engaging is faith?
If faith is activated and expressed by love, then it means that your first assignment as a believer is to receive a revelation of the love of God. A child has faith in the father because he or she knows how much the father loves them. They’ve seen their father labour to put food on their table, they’ve seen him make dinner when their mother is running late from work, they’ve seen him go the mile to ensure they have the best education, they’ve seen him work hard to provide an enabling environment. When they get challenged in any way, they trust their father to provide before it even becomes a problem.
Some children are even luckier, they don’t get to know when there’s a challenge. Before hunger comes, food is already waiting on the dining table. Before the school session resumes, necessary payments have been made. Before they close from school, the driver is already waiting at the gate. Before they fall sick, regular checkups are made to ensure that they don’t.
In one of Jesus’s teachings about the Father, he revealed something that every believer should really meditate on. He said, “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?”. That was Matthew 7:11. This could also imply that if a man can provide for his child even without asking, then God can as much provide for his child without the child needing to ask.
The challenge therefore is that many Christians do not have a revelation of the love of God. Imagine a child struggling to enroll himself into school, not knowing that the father has a responsibility to educate him to the highest level. Even if the child successfully finds a school, how will he pay the school fees? There are many things we struggle to get that are responsibilities of the Father because of His love for us, but if we don’t know this, we might continue struggling to get those things.
I remember when I lost my job late 2016, it was at a time when getting a job was extremely difficult. Knowing this, I didn’t even bother to apply for jobs, I wasn’t ready for disappointments. So I went on a retreat.
When bad things suddenly happen to you, act like a soldier, retreat. You can’t enforce results in your weak or vulnerable state. If you do, you’d keep getting denials and dissapointments, and those things lead to depression – which eventually leads to the hardening of your soul. Many believers have given up on God because they kept pushing at the point where they were supposed to go on a retreat.
So during my retreat, I found scriptures that assured me of God’s love towards me. I can’t forget Psalms 115:12, it says, “The LORD hath been mindful of us: he will bless us; he will bless the house of Israel; he will bless the house of Aaron”. Just look at that, while I was thinking that I’d suffer because of the economy, the bible says God is thinking about how He’d bless me. The fact that the only thing that occupied God’s mind was how to bless me really strenghtened my faith.
Another scripture that charged me up was Isaiah 3:10, it says “Say ye to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their doings”. So I wasn’t going to be begging or feeding from hand to mouth, I’d have my own job and I’d feed from my earnings. Even though I was sure I made a mistake by resigning, my faith was alive because of the revelation of God’s love towards me.
I started the 21-day retreat officially in January 2017, and by the time I was done, God directed me on the things to do. One of the things He told me to do was to volunteer my IT skills to a church, and that volunteer service lasted till April 2017. By May 2017, God gave me a job in a company I never applied to. I didn’t even know that a company like that existed until I was invited for an interview.
As I conclude, don’t go job hunting if you don’t have faith. Believe me, getting a job is never a problem, you just need to build your faith first. When your faith is built, a new role can be created in a company just so you can be employed. Think about it, the role that Joseph occupied in Egypt didn’t exist until the time for Joseph’s appointment came. But then, faith is activated and expressed by a revelation of God’s love.
I hope this has brought enlightenment to someone.
Remain ever blessed, in Jesus precious name!
