WE CAN’T CONTINUE LIVING LIKE THAT…
So I was teaching last Saturday on how believers can command greater results, and while I thought that I’d share as many scriptures as possible with them, I just couldn’t move away from one scripture. It stood out as an anchor scripture I never planned for. Let me share it with you:
John 6:
63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
This was Jesus’s direct teaching, he was trying to teach them the transformative power of his word, but he began with something I’d call a preface. He could have just told them that his word is spirit and life, but they probably would not have understood the depth of that statement. So he began by telling them that it is the spirit that quickens. In other words, the glory of a Christian is locked within the spirit. Attempting to live a flesh controlled life would not be profitable to you – when measured with the glory that a Christian should command.
The dictionary lists several words that explains what it means to quicken; to give life or enliven, to stimulate, to inspire, to animate, to revive, to ressurect or bring back to life. Whatever meaning you choose, it’s totally acceptable. The key thing here is, the potentials within a believer in Christ can only be stimulated by the spirit. And just incase you used to be very spiritual but somehow strayed away, it is still the spirit that will enliven those spiritual potentials within the you.
So it continues by saying “The flesh profits nothing”. Now that I think about it, living in the energy of the flesh actually profits nothing. Take for instance, you just spent money in the hospital treating malaria only for the same malaria to resurface after a few months. Now you’d have to spend money again for treatment. Money that should have been used for something more valuable would now be spent on treating sickness. It’s amazing how people earn but are forced to spend their earnings on unplanned situations. The flesh really profits nothing.
Many people enter into marriage in the flesh only to file for divorce a few months later. The flesh may appear good at the start, but it ends with nothing to hold on to. How do you explain the fact that a couple that had the best wedding ceremony ended up seperating after 24 hours? How do you explain that a salary you’ve been anticipating didn’t even last for one day after it finally arrived? How do you explain the fact that a child you treated with heavy bills last month suddenly falls sick again this month? It all boils down to one thing, the flesh profits nothing. It may appear good at start, but it ends with nothing for you to hold on to.
Just in case you’ve made decisions in the flesh that you’re currently living with, I know this message might scare you, but it’s not too late to begin to enliven things by the spirit. You can’t continue living like that. Actually, I’m a victim of this too, so we can’t continue living like that.
According to Matthew 6:33, the things we pursue after in the flesh are actually things that should be added to us if we’d be spiritual. That scripture says “Seek ye first the kingdom of God… and all this things shall be added unto you”. So the more you seek spirituality, the more things are added to you. Believe me, it’s very stressful to pursue after things in the energy of the flesh, I’d rather let them come by the spirit. Think of Esther, Joseph, Daniel, Moses, spirituality gave them a place with kings. Imagine that all Esther had was her make-up and jewelries, she wouldn’t have been able to compete with the others, because her uncle wasn’t that wealthy.
It’s only you that is thinking that the things you don’t have may disqualify you for favour, favour is spiritual! The excessive struggle in your life now has an explanation, you’re living life in the flesh, not the spirit.
Once Jesus was done with the preface, then he dropped the main subject “The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit and they are life”. Now that you understand the importance of living a life that is sponsored by the spirit, I bring you good news, the Word of God is both spirit and life. In other words, if you’d endure the spiritual demands that the Word of God presents to you, your life will soon begin to reflect what the Word says.
For instance, the bible says “thou shall lend to many nations, but thou shall not borrow”. The spiritual demand here is that you mustn’t borrow as long as you want to lend to nations. If you’re still borrowing to live, then you’re not living by the spirit. But if you refuse to borrow despite the situation, and you choose to have faith in God for supplies, it won’t be long before your life would begin to reflect that of a person that enjoys supernatural supplies from God.
The challenge most times is that many believers don’t endure spiritual demands from scriptures, they give up too easily. But I pray that as you’ve read this, you’d receive grace to begin to respond to the demands of scriptures, so that your life will begin to reflect what God’s Word says.
I hope this has brought enlightenment to someone.
Remain ever blessed, in Jesus precious name!
