“Pastor, I’ve made a lot of mistakes in life, and now I feel my destiny is completely lost. I’m considering suicide”
I totally understand. But you see, if there’s anything you should consider doing, it should be realignment, not suicide. However, attempting suicide simply tells me that you clearly don’t understand what destiny really is. So, let’s begin from there.
Your destiny is the course that God charted for you or an expected life. This is quite different from your life’s purpose. Your purpose is that which God assigned you to do to advance His kingdom – even before you were born. Your destiny is everything God’s word says about you. And if that’s the case, He has to be faithful to whatever He has spoken concerning you.
Destiny is the faithfulness of God at work in your life. Even when a man is off course, God is still right on track and faithful to the course of that man’s destiny.
When Adam went off course, God remained faithful to the Prophetic destiny He had for man. As a matter of scriptures, the very day Adam sinned against God, we were told that God still came down to the garden as He always did. Let’s read from scriptures:
Genesis 3:
8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.
9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?
10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?
Just look at that, sin made them hide themselves from God. God didn’t even know that they had sinned until they became hidden from God’s presence. That’s how powerful sin is, it can literally hide a person from God’s presence. Now you’d understand Isaiah 59:1-2. It says, “Behold, the LORD’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear. But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear”.
God knew that the only thing that could hide them from His presence was sin, and that’s why He asked that question in verse 11. “Have you eaten from the tree I commanded you not to eat?”. They disobeyed God when they ate from that tree, and that act of sin immediately took them ofcourse.
As I’ve often said, God would have restored them if they understood repentance. 1 John 1:9 tells us that if we confess our faults, God is faithful and just to forgive and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. But unfortunately, they didn’t understand this, and so they had to continue walking ofcourse because of sin.
Despite all of that, God continued walking right on track and was faithful to the Prophetic destiny of man. Although Adam had lost the dominion, God kept on deploying strategies to restore dominion to man. This is actually one thing I love about God, how He thinks up new ways to bless me – despite my shortcomings. Let’s see how scriptures put it:
Psalms 115:
12. The LORD hath been mindful of us: he will bless us; he will bless the house of Israel; he will bless the house of Aaron.
Just look at that! God’s mind is full of thoughts on how He’d bless me. I may be completely off course and unyielding to spiritual things, but He’s still thinking of how He’d redirect me to my original destiny.
Little wonder then, He sent prophets, kings, and finally our Saviour Jesus Christ. And whoever believes in Him would not perish, but have everlasting life.
So, your destiny was never lost, you only went off course. And all you have to do is get back on course by rededicating your life to Christ. You may have created alot of problems for yourself, but don’t worry, His word has a solution to every single problem you may have created. And don’t even think you’re too old, because even at old age, you shall still bring forth fruit.
I hope this has brought deliverance to someone.
Remain ever blessed, in Jesus precious name!
