“Pastor, I have a character defect. I get angry so easily but regret my actions afterwards. It has spoilt many relationships for me. What do I do to deal with it?”
The fact that you feel regret after expressing anger tells me that it’s beyond a personality or temperament issue, you’re dealing with a demonic spirit. That’s right! It’s not only God that spiritualizes virtues, the devil also spiritualizes character flaws. While anger can be natural, it can also be sponsored by a demon spirit.
Have you seen people who were supposed to do something good in their life but suddenly became full of fear. They nursed that fear until the opportunity passed, only for them to begin to express regret. Many of them will tell you that they didn’t even know why they were afraid to take the necessary step. That’s a demonic spirit at work, and it’s called the spirit of fear.
The reason why many people are not married today is because of the spirit of fear. Some of them even made up their minds to go for their marriage introduction, only to hold back on the set day. It’s after that day that they’d start regretting. I’ve heard a story of a woman who ran away from home the day her bride price was supposed to be paid. Every decision she took from that day further complicated her life. That’s the spirit of fear at work.
Now you’d understanding why Apostle Paul had to write a very important charge to his spiritual son Timothy. In 2 Timothy 1:6-7, the bible says, “Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind”.
Did you see that? The way to deal with the spirit of fear is to stir up the gift of God which is in you. Actually, that’s how to deal with every demonic spirit, including the spirit of anger.
When the Spirit of God is stirred up within you, demonic spirits lose their peace within you. They can’t stay in an environment where the Spirit of God is active. The reason why many believers are easily possessed by demon spirits is because they’re too cold inside. You have to stir up the Spirit of God which is in you. We all have the Spirit of God in us, but we’re not all equally stirred. It is one thing to put a cube of sugar in your tea, and another thing to stir it so that the entire tea can be affected.
Another thing about sugar is that even though stirred, it can still precipitate at the bottom of a cold liquid substance. That’s why even though you stirred up the Spirit of God in you and demonic activities couldn’t penetrate for some time, if you don’t continue, you’d get cold and those demonic spirits will come back.
Let me show you an example of how demonic spirits react when a superior power enters an environment that they possessed:
Mark 5:
1 And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes.
2 And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit
3 Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains:
4 Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him.
5 And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.
6 But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him
7 And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.
8 For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit. 9 And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.
10 And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country.
11 Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding.
12 And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.
13 And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea.
Did you see that? Nobody could bind the man, he was literally in charge of that environment – just as demonic spirits take charge of your body. But the moment Jesus appeared, the same demons that nobody could bound where pleading for mercy. That’s what happens when you stir up the Spirit of God in you, demonic spirits take a bow.
To stir up your spirit, study and meditate on God’s word daily so you can understand the authority that you have in Christ. Have a scheduled fasting day, and a daily prayer time – minimum of one hour. Be committed to fellowshipping with other Christians, especially in church. The bible tells us that upon mount Zion there shall be deliverance and holiness. If you do all these consistently, demonic spirits will have no place in you.
I hope this has brought enlightenment to someone.
Remain ever blessed, in Jesus precious name!
