“Pastor, I’ve been praying to God to show me His purpose for my life, but He has not responded. What do I do?”
Every equipment has a purpose. As a matter of fact, before the equipment was created, its purpose had been established.
Before a microphone was created, the purpose in the heart of the inventor was to create something that can amplify the voice of a person. Before a car was invented, a faster means of transportation must have been conceived in the heart of the inventor. Over the years, means of transportation has evolved from animals to automobiles. Back in the days, it was Camels and horses, then bycicles, motorbikes, and then cars. Cars took longer time to travel long distances, so aeroplanes were invented. Today, we even have faster aeroplanes called jets.
Now, instead of worrying about God showing you your purpose, isn’t it better to learn from the mystery of the equipment? Just as every equipment serves a purpose, every equipped man would definitely serve a purpose in God’s kingdom. What I’m saying is, if God hasn’t giving you an assignment or a purpose, then it’s probably because you’ve not equipped yourself for His use. Let’s see a few scriptures:
Jude 1:
20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost.
Did you see that? “Building up yourself”. That’s what you should focus on doing. Jesus kept building himself until he found where his purpose was written in scriptures. He went to the temple to read just as he usually did, and as He was reading the book of Isaiah the Prophet, he suddenly saw where his purpose was written. Let’s read from scriptures:
Luke 4:
17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised
19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
20 And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.
21 And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.
Keep building up yourself in the faith, studying the word of God and spending time praying in the Holy Ghost. In Acts 20:32, Apostle Paul said, “And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified”. So there’s something about God’s word that can give you an inheritance, or in this case – that can give you purpose, as long as you commit yourself to studying and practicing what it says.
Once you’re built up to a point where God can trust you with an assignment, He’d give you one. Check the scriptures, everyone whoever got equipped was eventually given a kingdom responsibility. David, Paul, Moses, Joseph, Daniel. David had spent time preserving his father’s cattle, he even defended them against wild beasts. It wasn’t long before God gave him a responsibility in His kingdom. Believe me, God wants to give you purpose as much as you want it, but if you’re not equipped, He may be restrained.
As I conclude, be conscious of the times and seasons as you build yourself. The sons of Issachar understood the times and knew exactly what Israel ought to do. Nobody would see a car and prefer to travel using a bycicle, or even a horse. Likewise, nobody will see an aeroplane and decide to travel by car. As long as he can afford it, the faster means would always be considered.
When God called me to teach the gospel, I wondered where He wanted me to teach. There were literally churches everywhere already, so I knew He couldn’t be calling me to open another physical church. When I prayed about it, He told me that my platform would be on the internet. Now that I think about it, God is simply creating something from what already existed, just as the idea of aeroplanes came because cars couldn’t travel long distances on time. There are people around the world today who don’t have any physical access to church, except through the internet. These must be the people God saw when He called me. There are many more that God is calling to take up responsibilities on the web, but because they don’t understand the times, they miss out.
If God eventually unveils purpose to you and it doesn’t make sense, just flow with it. With time, you will understand.
I hope this has brought enlightenment to someone.
Remain ever blessed, in Jesus precious name!
