“Pastor, I need serious prayer right now, the devil is everywhere in my life. Please pray for me”

Why do the average Christian naturally think that he needs prayer when he’s challenged? From experience, people who make urgent prayer requests like this hardly invest in their spiritual growth. Without mincing words, a person who doesn’t invest in spiritual growth will naturally despise the laws of God.

Proverbs 28:9 says, “He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination”. If this is your case, if you’ve transgressed and despised the laws of God, then what you need isn’t just prayer from me, you need to repent and ask God for forgiveness first. 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness”.

As long as your garment is spotted with unrighteousness, your life will remain a play ground for the devil. A spot on your garment naturally gives the devil permission to oppress you. We get these spots whenever we transgress the laws of God, which is why we must be quick to repent and seek forgiveness for any unrighteous action we take. According to that scripture, God erases the spots on our garment when we confess our sins or repent, and Satan has no legal right to oppress us without a spot on our garment. He may try to tempt us into sin, but he can’t enforce anything on us without a spot on our garment. I’m sure you know the difference between a trial and a punishment. Trials are temptations orchestrated to get you to sin, a punishment is simply the consequence of transgressing God’s law.

In Mark chapter 2, we read a story of how Jesus healed a paralyzed person by forgiving him. It might interest you to know that some of the greatest miracles in the kingdom today happened when God’s forgiveness was received. It’s such a beautiful thing, believe me. And that’s because there’s nothing else for the devil to hold on to once you’ve been forgiven. Let’s read that scripture:

Mark 2:
1 And again he entered into Capernaum, after some days; and it was noised that he was in the house.
2 And straightway many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the word unto them.
3 And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four.
4 And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay.
5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.
8 And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts?
9 Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk?
11 I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house.
12 And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.

Did you notice verse 9? Jesus literally told them that it was easier for the man to receive his healing through forgiveness. Chances are that the paralysis would return if Jesus administered healing alone. The root cause of the man’s paralysis was Satan, and except the man was forgiven, Satan can always return with the paralysis.

After you’ve been delivered, take your spiritual life more seriously. You can’t continue to live as though the devil is your friend. Let God’s word dwell richly in your heart, and ensure your decisions are faith-based. Avoid doing things that God would not be proud of, and more importantly, avoid sin.
