“Pastor, for some months now, I’ve been giving all my salary to God as a seed, but the challenge is, there’s really nothing to fall back to, so I end up struggling. Am I doing it wrongly?”

No! Making a sacrifice like that to God can never be wrong. As a matter of fact, God loves that kind of sacrifice, because it shows the position of your heart towards God. And believe me, God would not hesitate to entrust wealth into your hand.

However, for you to be involved in a kingdom commitment that takes all your salary and leaves you with nothing, it is wisdom that you have a business that you run alongside your salary job. This is because, God blesses us when we give, but the blessing only reflects in the works of our hands. If your salary job is all you have, then you may have to wait till month end before you get another income. Clearly, that would be a struggle.

Personally, years ago, I dedicated my monthly salary to sowing seeds, but that was after I had started a business of my own. Before the business idea came, my salary was my only source of income, so after my tithe and other commitments, I used the rest for my upkeep.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that God cannot give you a breakthrough if you continue giving your whole salary like that, ofcourse He can, and as a matter of fact, He will. My only concern is that giving requires some level of joy and cheerfulness for you to reap. Remember that God loves a cheerful giver. You may have sown in tears, but you can only reap in joy. The bible tells us that he that goes forth and weepeth – bearing precious seeds, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing bringing his harvest with him. So, no joy, no harvest.

Seeing that you’d definitely have personal things to do with money, your joy may be hindered from time to time, and that’s not good for the harvest you’re expecting. God does not only want you to give to Him, He wants you to find joy doing it.

While on my monthly salary, I increased my tithe every year by one percent, doubled my worship offering every year, gave to my parents, and ofcourse had an allocation for the poor. My business started producing sustainable income after about 3 years of that practice, so I completely dedicated my salary to sowing seeds. Also, my tithe increased from one percent yearly addition to five percent, and then to ten percent. Currently, I pay thirty percent tithe from all my incomes, whether from my monthly salary or business proceeds.

Eventually, I’d get to a point where I can give God ninety percent or even hundred, and it would be without pressure, because I grew to that level, I didn’t jump into it.

We should all grow to a point where we can give God all, because that’s what God wants. He wants our heart. He bought us with a price and so He’d like to have that sense of ownership. We don’t own anything we have. If anything is too hard for you to give God, then it means you haven’t fully surrendered to His Lordship. He owns you and your billions. R. G. LeTourneau was asked why he gave ninety percent of his income to God and kept only ten percent for himself, his response was, “It’s not about how much of my money I give to God, but how much of God’s money I keep to myself”. That’s one of the greatest revelations I’ve heard concerning commitment to God’s kingdom.

As I conclude, when it comes to commitment to God’s kingdom, create a system that gives you an opportunity to grow into it, just like I did. Keep increasing your commitment on a yearly basis, until you’re finally able to give God your all without any form of stress or strain.
