“Pastor, I’ve been paying tithe for years now, but why is it not showing in my finances?”
Thinking that tithe makes one financially established is scripturally incorrect. The scripture never promised that God will give you money if you pay tithe; rather, it guaranteed the release of blessing. Let’s see how scripture puts it:
Malachi 3 (BBE) :
10 Let your tithe come into the store-house so that there may be food in my house, and put me to the test by doing so, says the Lord of armies, and see if I do not make the windows of heaven open and send down such a blessing on you that there is no room for it.
So you see, tithing would open the windows of heaven and pour down a blessing upon you, such that there won’t be room enough to contain the blessing.
You’re probably about to ask, “If that scripture wasn’t talking about money, then what is blessing?”. Well, blessing is a divine enablement to do something. This is why when God blesses in scriptures, He’d often attach an assignment to the blessing. Blessing is not complete without a specific assignment. For instance, when God blessed man in the beginning, the blessing was to enable man become fruitful, multiply, replenish, and have dominion over the earth. Man wasn’t expected to struggle to have dominion because of the blessing or divine enablement that was upon him. Unfortunately, when man fell into sin, Satan took that blessing, and life became a struggle for man.
When God blessed Abraham, the assignment of that blessing was to make his name great and to make him a generational blessing. Which literally meant that all the descendants of Abraham will enjoy greatness and divine enablement. This was so serious that one of the reasons why Jesus died was so that the blessings of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles. Yes, blessing is that powerful!
Deuteronomy 28 also talks about God blessing the works of our hand. Which literally mean that there would be a divine enablement as you work with your hand. Wouldn’t it be a beautiful thing to know that a divine force backs up your work? So while you thought that you were building that estate alone, God’s hand was also assisting you, such that your mistakes were quickly mended, and then a masterpiece was built. Before you know it, more clients would begin to patronize you. That’s what happens when the works of your hands are blessed. It’s not about the expertise you put it, but about the divine enabling that sponsored your effort.
Each time I write, I write with that consciousness. And that’s why you probably feel that angelic ecstasy when you read my articles, as though God was talking to you directly. That’s right! It wasn’t just me that wrote, there was also a divine enabling. That’s why the more you read, the more you want to read. Nobody gets tired of the divine. If people get tired of your work, perhaps you haven’t been working in this consciousness.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying you don’t need to be an expert in your field, ofcourse you should be. I’m just saying that if the works of your hands are not blessed, your expertise may eventually frustrate you.
Speaking of tithing, the blessing that comes when we tithe also has an assignment. First it tells us that there won’t be room enough to contain it, which means you’d have unlimited access to possibilities. That’s right! Nothing should be impossible to you once you are a faithful tither. You can bid for that project you thought was too big for you. You can apply for that visa. You can do just anything you desire.
Frankly speaking, you can’t have this level of possibility and not have money. Because even in hard times, you’d be exempted. Verses 11 and 12 of Malachi chapter 3 says, “And on your account I will keep back the locusts from wasting the fruits of your land; and the fruit of your vine will not be dropped on the field before its time, says the Lord of armies. And you will be named happy by all nations: for you will be a land of delight, says the Lord of armies”. Isn’t this beautiful?
So, the next time you claim a blessing for yourself, understand the assignment of that blessing. Appropriation would be easier when understanding is established.
