“Pastor, I’m tired of falling, what do I do to get Satan off my back?
Simple, resist him and he will flee from you. James 4:7 says, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you”. What that means is that the more you subject yourself to God and His word, the more you’d be able to build resistance against the devil.
However, I strongly believe that the reason why many Christians still fall into the hands of Satan despite their spirituality is mostly because they are unaware of his devices. Building resistance without a knowledge of your enemy’s devices may end in futility.
The bible is not silent about the fact that Satan has strategies and schemes by which he attacks believers. Let’s see two scriptures:
Ephesians 6:
11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.
2 Corinthians 2:
11 Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.
So you see, while the first scripture specifically tells us to stand against Satan’s schemes, the second scripture expects that we are not ignorant of those schemes. Think about it, can you stand against what you don’t even know? As long as you don’t know, the chances of falling over and again would always be high.
Now, let me show you some of his devices.
1. Satan fights
Revelation 12:
11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
This scripture unveils a life threatening situation that was most likely done by human beings against believers, yet these believers attributed it to be a fight against the devil. I can imagine that they were told to deny Jesus or they’d lose their lives, yet they felt losing their physical life was inconsequential to the fight against Satan. So human beings were threatening them, yet the record was that they overcame Satan by the blood and the word of the Lord.
I know you probably think that your colleagues or boss in the office hates you so much because of your Christian faith, but believe me, it’s not them, it’s a fight from Satan. He’s fighting you to get you out of that organization. Any human fight that is against your faith is clealy sponsored by Satan.
2. Satan hinders
1 Thessalonians 2:
18 Wherefore we would have come unto you, even I Paul, once and again; but Satan hindered us.
Just look at that! If Satan could hinder the Apostle, then he can hinder your boss from signing your promotion. He can hinder your marriage proposal from being accepted. He can hinder your in-laws from accepting you. Whenever you notice an unnecessary hindrance around your life, there’s a ninety percent chance that Satan is at work.
3. Satan steals, kills and destroys
John 10:
10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
That’s right! Satan can steal visions and ideas, he can also kill and destroy them. So when you see an operation of theft or destruction around you, Satan must be hanging around somewhere.
4. Satan lies
John 8:
44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
Did you see that? Satan isn’t just a liar, he’s also the father of liars. Avoid people who tell lies without remorse. No matter how well you try to paint it, they have an affiliation with the devil, and they won’t hesitate to tell a lie against you.
Let me beg you, any idea that isn’t scripturally acceptable may be a lie in disguise. It may sound natural, but its aim is to lead you to destruction. Satan is incapable of telling truth.
5. Satan deceives
Revelation 12:
9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
If Satan could deceive Eve to get to Adam, then he can deceive your parents to make you marry wrongly. He can deceive your boss to disqualify you for promotion. He can deceive your business partner to pull out of that business.
Adam wasn’t deceived, he only fell because of love. It’s okay to love, but try not to fall in the process. Adam fell in the process of loving Eve. Be careful, if Satan cannot deceive you directly, he’d try to deceive those you love so that they can get to you.
Earlier I mentioned that Satan kills, it is through this device that he kills a person. He doesn’t have direct authority to take a life, but he can deceive them into their death. That thought that suggested that you shouldn’t service your car brake system before driving out is clearly Satan’s deception. He knows that if the brake fails, death may be unavoidable. That’s how he does it.
6. Satan is the accuser of the brethren
Revelation 12:
10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.
Satan does not only accuse us before God in court, he also uses people to lay false accusations against us. And the aim is to destroy whatever you may have built.
Now that you know his devices, resisting him should be easier. When you see any of these devices operating anywhere around your life, resist them by the blood and the word of the Lord. That’s how it works.
I hope this has brought enlightenment to someone.
Remain ever blessed, in Jesus precious name!
