“Pastor, I’m tired of struggling to get things done, can’t somebody rest from the struggles of life?”

One of the greatest secrets I’ve discovered in this kingdom is that until you train your mind to “want” nothing, your struggle to get things done may never cease.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a bad thing to have desires, the bible has a provision that grants our hearts desires. However, beyond granting our personal desires is something called “alignment”. That’s right! The ability to align or position yourself in God’s will or God’s word per time such that that you don’t lack any good thing. It’s okay to have desires, but it’s far better to not lack any good thing.

Let me show you a few scriptures:

SCRIPTURE 1:

James 1:
2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations
3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

Did you notice the concluding part of verse 4? Wanting nothing! Do a little reflection about your life, what are the things that get you frustrated or worried? Chances are that you’d find out that they are things you want, not necessarily the will of God. And clearly the reason why we have these wants is because we think they’d make us better versions of ourselves.

So you want a car because you think it would make mobility easier for you. You want to get married because you feel it would give you some respect in your family. You want to go to school because you think you’d be better than your peers if you do. You want to buy a house because you want to be the first to buy a house in your family. While all of these things are good, let’s put a caution when it begins to affect our peace and joy.

Verse 2 of that scripture tells us that the true test of joyfulness is when we still retain our joy despite the trials that we go through. It’s okay to want to get married because your peers are married, but don’t lose your joy if the marriage isn’t forth coming.

Verse 3 tells us that the delay is simply a trial of our faith, and the whole purpose is to work out patience within us. Once patience is established within us, then it will make us perfect, complete and wanting nothing. So although you thought you wanted to get married because your peers had gotten married, but once patience has been worked within you, you’d no longer want that because you’d come to a state of conviction, a state where you know you cannot lack any good thing like Psalms 34:10 says.

Personally, if you ask me what I want for myself, I’d probably need to think deep, because I haven’t had to want anything in many years. I just align with God’s word. And truly, I’ve not lacked any good thing. While in church yesterday, we were told to make a list of everything we wanted God to do for us, and I honestly couldn’t think of any. Don’t get me wrong, ofcourse there are things in my life that probably needs to be fine-tuned, but it’s not a want because I’m contented, patience is at work in me, I’m comfortable with the pace at which my alignment is advancing me.

SCRIPTURE 2:

Hebrews 4:
3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.

Faith in God should put you in a state of rest. If you’re still worried or troubled while you have faith in God, then your faith isn’t correct. That scripture says, “For we which have believed do enter into rest…”.

Apostle Joshua Selman defined faith as the name of the action birthed from your convictions from God and His word. If this is true, then it means that if it’s God’s word you are acting on, then you cannot be worried or restless. The result may not be immediate, the situation may even escalate, but you can still find rest as long as you’ve found God’s word.

As I conclude, stop wanting and start working in faith. You can find rest even as you go about your daily life, whether difficult or easy, you can find rest. Rest in His word, and gradually, your struggles will fade away.
