“Pastor, what does it mean to be a new creature in Christ. Does it mean I’m no longer human?”
The complete answer to that question would require that I write a whole book to you, however, let’s see what we can touch to get you started.
In 2 Corinthians 5:17, the bible says,” Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new”. So a man in Christ is no longer an ordinary man, He’s a new creature. Although he may still have the physical figure of a man, but his operational capabilities have been changed. When the bible says “old things passed away”, it’s not restricted to man’s sin alone, it also covers man’s possibilities and limitations.
However, just because something has become new doesn’t mean it’s better than the old. You’d agree with me that there are some old things that are far better and relevant than the new things that were created. If this is correct, then it’s important that we understand the capability of our new nature. So, what does it mean to be a new creature?
“Ye are gods, and all of you are children of the most High”; That’s how Psalm 82:6 puts it. Come to think of it, if the earnest expectation of the world is the manifestation of the sons of God, then it means the world is waiting for gods, not humans. If the son of a lion is a lion, then the sons of God cannot be humans, they’ve got to be gods.
At Lystra, a certain man who had never walked suddenly began to walk as he heard Paul preach. When the people around saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices saying “the gods have come to us in the likeness of men”. We may look like humans, but salvation has made us gods.
Jesus gave us an example of how gods should operate, let’s sight a few:
– The wedding at Cana
We know the story. Wine finished while the wedding was on and it was humanly impossible to get wine at that short time. But Jesus manifested his God nature by turning water to wine.
There are two lessons to draw from that experience. A god cannot suffer the insufficiencies that man suffers, neither can he be affected by the limitations of time. Just as a thousand years is likened unto one day before the Most High God, a thousand years is also likened to a day in the face of a god – the son of God. So time cannot affect a god.
– Jesus fed over 5000 people
While a natural man should wait till he has enough money before he can plan his wedding, a god doesn’t need to wait, he can multiply whatever he has. As gods, we don’t wait till what we have is sufficient, we start the process with what we have because we know that what we have is sufficient, even if it appears to be insufficient.
So just incase you get home tonight and all you have is a little garri which obviously cannot make eba that would feed your whole family, boil water, and when the water is boiled, pour the garri into the hot water and start stirring it. The garri may not be enough, but the eba must go round. That’s how gods behave. The bread and fish wasn’t enough, but when they started distributing it, it went round for over 5000 people. Hallelujah!
– The woman with the issue of blood
We also know this story. This woman touched the hem of Jesus’ garment and received her healing. This literally means that a natural man can put their faith in us, obviously because they know that our faith is in the Almighty God. Jesus was the God they could see, so as gods, we have to become the Jesus people can see. People should be able to touch God when they touch us.
A normal human being does not carry such healing power, but as new creatures, we carry power to heal and do much more.
There’s so much more we can learn from Jesus’ experience, but like I said, it would require a book. So as I conclude, it’s time for us to start approaching our daily lives with our “god” status. The world is waiting for gods, not humans. If we keep approaching matters with our human nature, then the world will wait forever.
Let me conclude with this; the power to operate as a god is the word of God. In the beginning was the word, the word was with God, and the word was God. That’s right! The word was God! If you take away the word, then you can’t be a god.
I hope this has brought enlightenment to someone.
Remain ever blessed, in Jesus precious name!
