“Pastor, I graduated from school a year ago, and since then I’ve been looking for a job. It’s getting frustrating, what can I do?”
Graduating from school or even school certificates has never been a guarantee to get a job. If it is, then we would not have unemployed graduates loitering around in our nation.
I’ve often encouraged young people that although education is good, but after they’ve been certified, they should also go for spiritual empowerment. This is because, the spirit controls the physical; if the spirit realm does not certify you, then it doesn’t matter how many physical certificates you have, your life may still be a struggle.
How do you explain the fact that Masters’ Degree holders become bus drivers or even truck pushers who haul goods from one place to another in the market? How do you explain the fact that graduates job-hunts for 7 years and still do not get it? And this isn’t because they are not competent, but because not everybody gets lucky at the same time.
I know someone who believes that anybody who is currently successful is only enjoying his time. He’d often say it like this, “It’s his time, my own time would also come”. That kind of statement is clearly a statement of ignorance of the truth, and only people who depend on luck think and talk like that. What he means is that the successful person only got lucky, and that luck would also shine on him some day.
I’ve said this before, as believers, we don’t depend on luck, we live by faith. Going about applying for a job just after you graduated from school isn’t different from trying your luck. If you would get a job that easily, then the job would have come before you graduated. Depending on your certificate alone to get a job as a Christian isn’t very “Christian-like”, you have to build your faith first.
Lets learn from Jesus. After he received his certificate, we are told that the Spirit drove him into the wilderness for a 40 day retreat. That’s right! The moment God certified that he was His beloved son, he didn’t rush to start looking for a devil to torment, he went for spiritual empowerment first.
I remember when I lost my job late 2016, it was at a time when getting a job was extremely difficult. Knowing this, I didn’t even bother to apply for jobs, I wasn’t ready for disappointments. So I went on a retreat.
When bad things suddenly happen to you, act like a soldier, retreat. You can’t enforce results in your weak or vulnerable state. If you do, you’d keep getting denials and dissapointments, and those things lead to depression – which eventually leads to the hardening of your soul. Many believers have given up on God because they kept pushing at the point where they were supposed to go on a retreat.
So during my retreat, I consciously built my faith by studying relevant books – including the bible, I prayed and ofcourse with fasting. I started the 21-day retreat officially in January 2017, and by the time I was done, God directed me on the things to do. One of the things He told me to do was to volunteer my IT skills to a church, and that volunteer service lasted till April 2017. By May 2017, God gave me a job in a company I never applied to. I didn’t even know that a company like that existed until I was invited for an interview.
As I conclude, don’t go job hunting if you don’t have faith. Believe me, getting a job is never a problem, you just need to build your faith first. When your faith is built, a new role can be created in a company just so you can be employed. Think about it, the role that Joseph occupied in Egypt didn’t exist until the time for Joseph’s appointment came.
I’ve had the opportunity to counsel people with similar questions, and most times I just send them my books to read. By the time they are done reading, they realize that the challenge they expressed was never really a challenge, they just didn’t know how to tackle it from a spiritual standpoint. It’s amazing how the knowledge of the truth empowers you to live above your fears.
I hope this has brought enlightenment to someone.
Remain ever blessed, in Jesus precious name!
