“Pastor, I have the gift of prophecy, but I’m currently in a place where the people need healing urgently. What do I do?”
I remember when I newly replaced my phone with an upgraded version of it, asides the obvious size of the phone and camera quality, I didn’t bother about any other hidden feature, mostly because I didn’t think I’d have need for them or because I didn’t think the phone could solve relative problems.
But beyond picture quality, the camera has amazing features like, “Dual Recording”, which means it can be used for interviews. The camera could also replace backgrounds with any background of your choice or just a solid colour. Which means you could be in your village yet choose a background in California. The most amazing part is that you won’t even know it was doctored. I also struggled alot to take group selfies or capture longer ranges using selfie mode on the camera, little did I know that the button on the stylus could also trigger the snap buttonš¢.
One of the most shocking experiences I’ve had with the phone is how I’d have to manually type out notes that are embedded in a screenshot inside the phone, or just manually typing something from a physical document into my phone. I was trying to snap a physical document one day when I noticed that the camera was highlighting the text on the document. I curiously followed through the process, and to my amazement, I was able to copy the text from document and paste in the note pad application on my phone. I was so upset with myself when I discovered it.
You see, the Holy Spirit that we received came with certain spiritual gifts, and just because the one that is obvious in your life is speaking in tongues or prophesying doesn’t mean that’s all you can use. Just as I had to discover the other possibilities in my phone, you just need to covet the other gifts when you need them. Let’s see how scriptures put it;
1 Corinthians 12:
27 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.
28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.
29 Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?
30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?
31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.
Did you see that? We may not all have the same predominant spiritual gifts, but verse 31 clearly tells us that we can covet the gift that best fits the kingdom situations we find ourselves. For instance, I lead a fellowship in the organization where I work, and as you all know, I’m a gifted teacher. But sometimes, certain situations in the fellowship need to be attended to with urgency, and attempting to start lecturing the individual about a way out may even escalate the situation. At that moment, I’d need to engage another gift of the Spirit to perform that urgent miracle. That’s right! All the gifts are available for our use, we just have to earnestly covet them.
Speaking of “earnestly covet”, to earnestly covet something simply means to seriously desire that thing. This already reveals that although you can operate every gift of the Holy Spirit, but you’d probably need to either ask the Holy Spirit to give a particular gift to you, or just desire it from someone who is already operating in the gift you desire.
When I started following Prophet Isaiah Wealth, I was amazed by how he operated in the prophetic. Probably because I’m a gifted teacher, I wasn’t someone who fancied prophetic revelations, but I just loved the way he flowed both as a teacher and a prophet. It wasn’t long after I realized that I needed that gift for the fellowship I lead. The moment I realized that, I started desiring it. To my amazement, I started operating in the prophetic too. It may not be as deep as he has gone, but at least I see little things here and thereš. And somehow, it has enhanced my ministration in the fellowship.
So, if you’re handling a spiritual assignment where you need the gift of healing, then covet it, either from people who already have it or directly from the Holy Spirit. God made these gifts available so that handling spiritual assignments would be easier. You can’t run a spiritual assignment in the energy of the flesh. As a matter of fact, the reason why many pastors are struggling in ministry is because they use their flesh to run something that can only be done by a spiritual gift.
Remember when Jesus was about to depart from his disciples, he told them to tarry in Jerusalem until they were endued with power. He continued by telling them that they shall receive that power after the Holy Ghost had come upon them, and that they shall be witnesses unto him. True to his word, when the Holy Ghost came upon them, the first thing they did was to speak in a language that was unknown to them yet known to those who listened to them. And that action led thousands to Christ the same day.
You really cannot witness Jesus to your world without the gifts of the Holy Spirit working in you. The disciples were weaklings who hid themselves from people who threatened to kill them for following Jesus, but the moment power came, they became bold to talk about Jesus before the same people. Spiritual gifts are life changers!
I hope this has brought enlightenment to someone.
Remain ever blessed, in Jesus precious name!
