Pastor, the challenges in my life are too much for me. I feel like taking my life. Please help me”
I’m sorry about how you feel, but taking your life would have sabotaged the only opportunity you have to advance in life.
That’s right! Challenges are opportunities to advance or ascend to the next level. We all face challenges, the only difference is that while some people create challenges, some others wait till they are challenged. Ofcourse the best approach is to create a challenge, but this doesn’t mean that those who are challenged cannot overcome their challenge. I agree that it may not be as easy as those who created their challenge would have it, but they’d overcome if they engage the right keys.
Speaking of keys, the first key to overcoming a challenge is to understand that challenges are common to man. No challenge is ever peculiar or newly created for anyone. 1 Corinthians 10:13 says, “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it”.
Did you notice the “escape” part? Right in that challenge, God has made a way of escape so that you will be able to both bear and overcome it. This already means that no challenge is expected to take your life. You should be able to bear it until you find a way of escape.
I must say that this is also where many believers have missed it; they bear their challenges for so long that they do nothing about finding the way of escape that God has made. Some of them even make pitiable statements like, “Maybe it’s God’s will…”. The danger of bearing a challenge for too long is that more challenges will join it until it begins to stress you. And if you bear stress for too long, more challenges will join until it becomes distress.
Believe me, bearing one or two challenges may not affect your relationship with God, but distress can. Distress is the name given to stress in it’s overwhelming stage. Apostle Paul was asking a very serious question in Romans 8:35 when he said, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
Many of us boast while we read that scripture, but the truth is, these challenges have successfully seperated many Christians from God. They’ve remained tools through which Satan uses to kill the fire of many believers. This is why we must be proactive enough to find a way of escape when we are challenged. God may have given you grace to bear the challenge, but that’s so that you can be sane enough to find a way of escape. The more challenges are added, the more you lose your sanity.
So, start! Start the search for a way of escape. Buy books and messages that relates to your situation and listen to them until light comes into your heart. The truth is, you can’t see a way of escape until light comes, and the entrance of the word of God is what brings light.
Remember how God was challenged in the beginning, the earth which He previously created was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the waters. God didn’t run away from the situation, neither did He complain about it, He simply introduced light first. The moment light came, it became clear what He needed to do or create.
God’s word enlightens our heart and gives us both hope and faith to produce result. The reason why you feel like giving up right now is because God’s word is not in your heart. As long as God’s word is not in your heart, darkness will take over your heart, and that means you’d start imagining dark and evil things. That’s probably why you’re considering suicide already.
As I conclude, just in case you’re in a state of distress already, you are still more than a conqueror. Just take a break from your regular activities and go look for God where He may be found. You shall overcome!
I hope this has brought enlightenment to someone.
Remain ever blessed, in Jesus precious name!
