“Pastor, the principalities and powers in my family are too much. How do I succeed despite their hindrances?”
I wouldn’t call them hindrances; rather, I’d call them opponents or oppositions. Although the meaning of both words could also be someone who’s attempting to stop the progress of another person, but unlike an hindrance, the desire of an opposition cannot be established without a fight from the opposed.
While an opposition “attempts to stop” something from happening, an hindrance actually stops something from happening. The desire of the opposition cannot be established without a fight, but an hindrance cannot be fought. Hindrances are usually established by a law or a higher authority. That’s why each time the word “hinder” was used in the bible, it was either the person didn’t scale through or there was a plea. An example would be how Lot pleaded with Abraham not to hinder him from seperating from him. Another example would be how Satan hindered Apostle Paul from going to preach to the Thessalonians.
Read your Bible, the word you’d often find in the bible when it comes to people who are against a person’s progress is “Adversary”. Even the devil is called your adversary. Adversary is another word for opponent or opposition, and this simply means that their desires against you cannot be established without a fight for you. Isn’t this good news? The desire of the devil against you cannot be established without a fight from you.
Now that we’ve established that principalities and powers cannot hinder you, let’s see a few scriptures that would bring clarity and comfort to your soul.
SCRIPTURE 1:
Ephesians 6:
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Did you notice the word “wrestle”? That’s right! As believers, our fight is not against the physical man, but against principalities and powers, against rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. So it shouldn’t surprise you that the principalities and powers in your family are too much, as long as you are a believer in Christ, then the fight will come for you anywhere, including your family. Are you not aware that your adversary the devil does about looking for who he may devour?
SCRIPTURE 2:
Colossians 2:
6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:
7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.
8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
Did you notice verse 10? Christ is the head of all principality and power, and you are in Christ. This is good news! The principalities and powers in your family are too small, you dwell inside their head and their head dwells in you. Even if they plan to attack you, they’d have to attack their head first, and we all know they can’t succeed.
This battle with principalities and the rulers of the darkness of this world has been on even from the time that God first created the heaven and the earth. We’re told in Genesis chapter one that the earth that God created had darkness covering the face of the deep. That’s right! There was darkness in the beginning after God created the earth. But right in that darkness, God proved His supremacy by introducing light.
That’s how you win the battle against principalities and powers. It’s true that you are in Christ and Christ is in you, but if your life isn’t producing the necessary fruits that puts you in command, you’d be a victim of these principalities. Ephesians 6:13 says, “Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand”. If you truly want to withstand the oppositions and even conquer them, then you need the armour of God, which is the light and revelation of His word.
Study to show yourself approved. Satan will ridicule you and bring shame to you if you don’t have knowledge of your rights and authority as a believer. As far as I’m concerned, your greatest investment in this life would be discovering your authority in Christ. Read books, listen to messages, not just to excite yourself, but to illuminate your spirit with light. Let God’s word dwell richly in your heart by faith. Be richer in the word than you are in the bank. As one who dwells inside the head of principalities and powers, you have to be smarter than those who are subject to you, so that they don’t overthrow you.
I hope this has brought enlightenment to someone.
Remain ever blessed, in Jesus precious name!
Good news! My wife and I welcomed a new baby girl on Wednesday. Thanks be to God and may everyone trusting God for such a miracle receive it without any further delay! Congratulations to us all.
