Let me guess, you’ve probably been praying to God to teach your husband a lesson that will make him more responsible to his family, right? Well, that’s definitely something God can do, except that you may be obstructing Him without knowing.
You see, God cannot work with us when we are in disobedience. For instance, His instruction for a wife towards her husband is to “submit”. This means that if you submit to your husband despite his shortcomings, then God will fight for you. Likewise, if you fight your husband over his shortcomings, God’s hand will be restrained from helping you.
I know it can get very emotional, especially when some level of cheating is involved, but you must also realize that it’s a battle, and you can’t win in disobedience to God’s word. That anger that you feel is understandable, but don’t let the devil use it against you. If you make decisions based on your anger, then you would be fulfilling the lust of the flesh; but if you stay in the spirit despite the emotional wounds, then God will come through for you.
When I say “stay in the spirit”, I simply mean hanging on to God’s word or remaining in obedience to God’s word until God proves Himself in your life. Many people who have gone wrong in marriage left the spirit when a challenge came, hoping that they could resolve the challenge in the energy of the flesh. When they realized that the matter only got complicated, they returned to God for help. That’s not how it works! You have to be spiritual from the beginning. Just because it appears like something common sense can handle doesn’t mean the scriptures should be violated. Common sense is not always common.
Any common sense that is against the scriptures is deception, and it can take you out of the garden of Eden. That’s right! It can take you out of your marriage. Common sense is not always common, it can as well be costly.
If the bible speaks about something, don’t use common sense for that thing, do exactly what the bible says. Unrest is often what makes many believers take rash decisions or act with common sense and in disobedience. And that’s why one of the first things you must do when you need God’s intervention is to find your peace. God will not fight for you until you hold your peace. Let me show you a few scriptures:
14 The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.
10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
Did you notice the words “Hold your peace” and “Be still”? They literally mean the same thing. If you want to see the hand of God, then you must hold your peace. Don’t go about engaging in emotional battles. Hold your peace! Be at peace despite the situation. Be at peace even while you pray about it. To hold your peace also includes serving your husband food, and having intimacy when he needs it. Don’t fight a fight you want God to fight for you. Anything you do that stirs grief is still a fight in the face of the Lord.
Maintaining your peace in the face of challenges is a sign of absolute confidence in God and His word. It’s not a state that one easily gets to, but it’s a state that we must all invest our time and resources to get to. It’s a state where you actively know that is never wrong and never late. He will show up!
As I conclude, hold your peace and walk in obedience to God’s instruction. That’s the only way God can fight for you. One of the powerful things about holding your peace is that harm cannot come near you. But just incase you had gone all flesh and it had resulted to domestic violence, I suggest you keep a distance for a while.
I hope this has brought enlightenment to someone.
Remain ever blessed, in Jesus precious name!
