“Pastor, I’ve been believing God for marriage but it seems my faith is not working. How do I build my faith for marriage?”
One of the ways you can know a person who has faith is by his or her confessions. How consistent is your confession with the word of the Lord? Men of faith never say how things are, they say how things should be. They don’t confess their problems, they confess The Word of God. So if your confession is often about your situation and not the word of God, then you don’t have faith.
In 2 Corinthians 4:13, Apostle Paul made this clear when he said, “We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak”.
If you believe God’s word, you will speak it. And speaking it commences the creative process. Recall that God made us in His own image, not necessarily in figure, but in expression and character. When God needed light, the first thing He did was to speak His Word. The bible further tells us that nothing was ever made without the spoken word. As a Christian, you have to understand this; just because you are beautiful doesn’t guarantee that you’d get married. Just because you have a business idea doesn’t mean you’d own a business. Just because you have skills doesn’t mean you’d utilize them. The creative process has to begin by the word. If you want to see yourself get married, start by speaking the word. Just as God saw what He spoke, you’d also see what you speak.
Don’t start anything you didn’t start by a declaration of God’s word, it’s a risk. The people of the world may do that and succeed, but not a Christian. As a Christian, nothing is ever truly made without the spoken Word. You have to understand this.
I know you’re probably about to tell me that you declare the word but sometimes, you go negative again. Well, to believe the word of God actually means to receive it into your heart, and that’s not possible without meditation. If you read a scripture right now and forget it after a while, then you didn’t really receive it. You may have believed it when you read it, but that kind of believing isn’t enough to fit the words in your lips. The kind of believing that influences your confession is the one you received into your heart.
The reason why you can’t forget certain details about your life is because you received them. For instance, if I ask what your name is, you won’t need to rack your brain to search it out, it’s already fitted to your lips because you received it into your heart. If I asked what your birthday is, you’d tell me instantly, it’s already fitted to your lips. Now, if I tell you that you’re already getting overdue for marriage, what will be your immediate response? If I tell you that your business cannot succeed in your country, what will be your immediate response? Chances are that you’d be sympathetic, and even if you’d respond in faith, it will take a while. That right there, is why your faith hasn’t worked. You haven’t received the word of God. If you’ve received the word of God, it will become your only and instant answer to the challenges of life. Let me show you a scripture:
Proverbs 22:
17 Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge.
18 For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee; they shall withal be fitted in thy lips.
19 That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee.
20 Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge
21 That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?
Did you notice verse 18, if you keep God’s word in your heart by receiving it, it will be fitted in your lips. It will become your instant response to challenges. Verse 20 and 21 guarantees us that God’s word are excellent things which we should use to answer the challenges that are sent to us. So when people tell you depressing things, you should respond with excellent things, which is the word of God.
If you understand what I’ve said so far, then all you need to do to build your faith for marriage is have a concentrated study on God’s will concerning a believer’s marital life. Listen to messages, buy books on marriage and read them, go to seminars, read your Bible, and don’t just believe the things you hear, meditate on them till your heart receives them. Once your heart receives them, your vocabulary will change. Once your vocabulary changes, your confession will also change. And it’s only a matter of time before your desires begin to manifest physically.
I hope this has brought enlightenment to someone.
Remain ever blessed, in Jesus precious name!
