“Pastor, I feel regret. I relocated to Lagos because of a job offer, only to get there and realized that the offer isn’t as juicy as expected. Now all my friends have gotten better jobs in my previous place, what do I do?”

I’m guessing you can’t even go back to your previous place, probably because you’ve sacrificed a lot to settle-in in Lagos. Going back may almost mean starting afresh.

Well, when situations like this happen to me, I just find solace in God’s word. So even if I made a mistake, God’s word can still redirect me to a path of favour. Let me show you a few scriptures:

SCRIPTURE 1:

Romans 8:
28. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Notice the first three words, “And we know…”. So the things that you’d read after those words are things you should know. It should be in your knowing that all things work together for good to them that love God and to them that are called according to His purpose.

While you may be feeling regret that you made a wrong move, even your wrong move is prophetically ordained to work out for your good. However, if you don’t know this, then you may not see the good.

Secondly, your movement may be according to God’s purpose. If it’s God’s purpose that is at work, then you can be rest assured that there is light at the end of the tunnel. “All things work together for good… To those who are called according to His purpose”.

Perhaps you think that you may have also gotten a job with your friends if you stayed back, but what you didn’t consider is that anything else may have also happened to you if you didn’t move. We often regret certain actions only because we don’t see what God may have saved us from. I’m not saying anything bad could have happened to you if you remain there, but I’m just trying to establish that nothing works to the disadvantage of a believer. All things work together for good.

SCRIPTURE 2:

Philippians 4:
6 Be anxious for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

Kill your anxieties. It’s not a time to express regrets or cares. Instead of doing that, make your requests known unto God. And in making your requests, ensure you don’t complain. Instead, let it be with thanksgiving.

No matter how bad the situation is, don’t ever be tempted to complain or murmur. Complaining only complicates the situation, thanksgiving elevates you from any situation. Remember how Jesus gave thanks to God before Lazarus’s tomb? After He did that, Lazarus who had been dead for four days came back to life. Meanwhile, we’re told that the children of Israel complained while they were in the wilderness, and God destroyed them for it.

Just look at that, they were in the wilderness. Who wouldn’t be tempted to complain in the wilderness? On the second thought, why should I complain about something my God can easily fix? So instead of complaining, I’d be grateful that I still have God and gladly make my requests. Simple!

As I conclude, arise and dust your feet from that regret. All things work together for our good. If it’s not looking good yet, then it’s because you’ve not agreed with God’s word. Agree with God’s word, then pray to Him about your desired level. As you do that, maintain a heart of gratitude at all times. It may have been an undesired choice, but as Jesus saw joy ahead as he carried the cross, there’s joy ahead of you. So rejoice!
