“Pastor, I know a rich man in my area that I’ve been trying to sell an idea to. Please how do I find favour with rich men?”
I’m glad you asked, because many young people do not know how to attract or seek favour from people who can help them. I’ve heard people make all kinds of complains about rich people, they’d say things like,” with all the money he has, he refused to assist me when I asked for help”, “The man is very stingy. He doesn’t give”, “That man can spend money on unnecessary things, yet he doesnt help”.
Just because you sought for help from a wealthy person doesn’t mean you will be helped. If there’s anything I’ve learnt from wealthy people, it’s that they don’t give or help without purpose. As a matter of fact, your journey to wealth and abundance would only begin when you start defining your purpose for giving or helping people. You can’t give anyhow and expect to be wealthy. I know a guy who despite the money he makes, he keeps going back to penury. When he sought counsel from me and narrated how generous he is, I didn’t hesitate to tell him that he’s mistaking foolishness for generosity. He gives to everyone that comes to him for help, without verification or any form of counsel. A person who wants to remain wealthy cannot afford to give like that.
When the bible talks about “he that scatters and yet receiveth”, it wasn’t talking about distributing your money without cause or reason. Even if you would distribute all, it has to be with purpose. Why do you give tithe? Why do you give to the poor? Why do you give to your parents? Why did you pay your brother’s school fees? Why did you help that man in your neighborhood? Why did you sponsor that man’s wedding? Did you crosscheck if he’s responsible enough for marriage? Wealthy people don’t give because people are in need, they give because they need to serve a purpose. If your giving isn’t serving a purpose, then it’s a waste.
Speaking of how to attract help from wealthy people, there are two major ways around it. Actually, both ways are interconnected; you can’t do one and ignore the other. Let me share both with you.
– ADD VALUE
One of the greatest secrets I’ve discovered is that wealthy people also have needs, and the easiest way to share in their wealth is not by sharing your problems with them but by meeting their needs. Wealthy people don’t necessarily help you because you have a need, they help you because they have a need. Their wealth is naturally drawn to whoever has the solution to their needs. So instead of looking for how to receive help from them, look for how to meet their need that releases the help you need.
Today I’m privileged to be in contact with loads of influential and wealthy people, and no matter how much they flaunt their wealth in our conversations, I’ve never had to ask them for assistance, not even financial assistance. Instead, I keep looking for ways to add value to their lives. I care for them in such a way that makes it difficult to ignore me.
Does it mean that I don’t have needs? No! I do have needs, but I’ve learnt to have absolute confidence in God when it comes to meeting my needs. That also means that I’d rather go hungry through the night than make a request that will spoil my relationships. That’s right! I value relationships more than my stomach. Nothing spoils a relationship more than a needy mentality. Nobody wants to be with a person that is always in need, not even your spouse.
Hebrews 7:7 hints us that God brings us in contact with influential people so that we can connect with the grace or blessing on their life. Let’s see exactly how that scripture put it:
Hebrews 7:
7 And without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better.
If that’s the case, then the only way to tap into blessing or grace is to add value to the one who you desire blessings from. The day I understood this, I consciously put some influential people on my payroll. While I have the account information of some of them, I send airtime credits to some others. What I send to them may be insignificant compared to what they have and receive from others, but a blessing is tied to it for me. I won’t have a meeting with them in a restaurant and allow them pay the bills, never! The less is blessed of the better! The lesser person should make the sacrifice, while the better person releases the blessing.
This may be against everything you’ve learnt about helping the needy, but this is Spiritual Intelligence 101. The “needy” are not only poor people, rich people also have needs. If you choose to meet the needs of only the poor, then you’d be missing out on the blessings of meeting the needs of the rich.
So buy a gift for that wealthy man and send it to him, bearing in mind that whether he sends for you or not, the blessing will still speak for you. If you can’t buy a gift, think of something else you can do. If the man has a product, make some sales without his knowledge and send the report to him. Just do something that will add value to his life.
– BE KINGDOM MINDED
You’d have an advantage if the help you seek will also be beneficial to the kingdom of God in some way. This is one secret I’ve traded for long now. Those who desire success in this world for the purpose of advancing the kingdom of God will always enjoy addition of all things.
Think of Daniel, Joseph and David. Think of Nehemiah who was just a palace servant, one whose life could be taking for just being sad. His life was so controlled that he wasn’t permitted to be sad before the king. But we’re told that he desired to build the walls of Jerusalem, and when he approached the king about the matter, the king gave him both leave and favour. In Nehemiah 2:7-8, he specifically said, “Moreover I said unto the king, If it please the king, let letters be given me to the governors beyond the river, that they may convey me over till I come into Judah; And a letter unto Asaph the keeper of the king’s forest, that he may give me timber to make beams for the gates of the palace which appertained to the house, and for the wall of the city, and for the house that I shall enter into. And the king granted me, according to the good hand of my God upon me”.
Did you see that? The favour he received was according to the good hand of God upon his life. Indeed, when a man’s way pleases the Lord, He makes even his enemy to be at peace with him.
As I conclude, add value, but ensure that you are also kingdom minded. A combination of this two will birth everlasting favour upon your life.
I hope this has brought enlightenment to someone.
Remain ever blessed, in Jesus precious name!
