“Pastor, I work in a bank at the moment but my talent is in making artworks. Although my job pays my bill comfortably, would you advice that I quit just so I can develop my talent?”

So yesterday I made a few remarks that stirred up many questions. You’d recall that I said, “One of the best ways to attract blessings to your life is to use the gifts of God upon your life to impact the world and ultimately advance the kingdom. Unfortunately, there are many people out there who do not invest in developing their gifts because they’d rather use the money and time for something else. Shockingly, this same people would like to make money through their gifts, unknowing to them that if your desire for pleasure is greater than your desire to develop your gift, then your gift will not bring you money. You must be willing to use your money to develop your gift”.

Your gifts are pointers to the kind of life you should live; unfortunately, most people pursue money just so they can eat and live in pleasure. Don’t concentrate on what to eat, focus on how to live. The state of your life is more important than the state of your stomach. The prosperity of your life is more important than the prosperity of your stomach.

The first assignment of your job should be to develop your gifts. The money you earn from your job should primarily be for developing your gifts and talents, not for food and pleasure alone. You have more responsibility to your gifts than you have to anything else in your life. Your gift carries your true life, so any other life outside the life that your gift will produce is either fake or temporary. Unfortunately, many people bring a spouse and children into that fake or temporary life. It’s why when they eventually decide to pursue their gifts, they find it difficult to maintain the family they had created.

I understand how time-consuming working in a bank can be, but like a wise man said “The only time you don’t have is the one you haven’t created”. If you truly want to develop your gift, then you will create time for it – even without quitting your bank job. Ofcourse it would take away your free times and pleasures, but that’s the sacrifice you’d have to make to develop your gift.

Like I remarked yesterday, I still work with an organization, even though I’ve reached a profitable level in trading my gifts. It wasn’t easy working and developing my gifts, but I had to lean on the grace of God. I know that there are still potentials in me that may not be unveiled until I resign, but it’s just not time to resign. Not because of the money, but because of what God is doing. Remember that the primary assignment of your job is to give you both money and resources to develop your gifts. For me, money is already available, but there are some other resources that God is still gathering.

Don’t quit your job, burn the night candles instead. You may feel the impact on your body for a few days, but God’s grace is sufficient for you. Your body will adjust to your new routine after a while. For instance, you may feel sleepy during the day if you wake up to read during the night, but if you practice that consistently, your body will get used to it. So instead of feeling weak at work, you’d even be stronger than your colleagues.

The life that developing your gift brings strengthens you to do every other thing effectively. It is clear that I’m the most prominent employee in the company where I work, and that’s because my gift energizes me.

Plan to paint or design an artwork everyday, it could be early in the morning before you go to work, or midnight after you must have rested for a few hours. Put your work on social media, let people see. As long as it gives you joy, keep doing it. How do you even ignore the one thing that gives you joy? Money may give you freedom, but it doesn’t give the joy that your gift brings.

Finally, don’t ever quit a job that pays the bills for a venture you’ve not mastered. Instead, make sacrifices till you’ve mastered it, ensure it is generating a matching income, then quit the job. If it can generate a matching income while you are still in the job, then potentials will be revealed to do even more once you face it full time.

I hope this has brought enlightenment to someone.

Remain ever blessed, in Jesus precious name!
