“Pastor, I don’t want to fail, what’s the best way to live life here on earth?”
First you need to understand that man is a compound of matter and spirit. The matter is flesh, made of the soil of the earth; the spirit is the life-giving breath of God in him. Genesis 2:7 elucidates this when it said, “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul”.
If that scripture says that “man became a living soul” after God breathed upon him, it clearly means that man had previously been existing as a spirit. In fact, the word breath is interpreted as “spiritus” in Latin. Which could further mean that when God breathed the breath of life into the clay man, He was breathing a spirit that already had life. It is this spirit that created a soul that animated the clay man. Man became a living soul because spirit entered into it.
You have to understand this. If the spirit of life enters a stone right now, that stone will immediately become animated. Anything the spirit of life enters comes alive. That’s why no matter how badly the body of man gets accidented, if his spirit doesn’t give up, he’d survive. The bible even says “the spirit of man will sustain his infirmities”.
At death the body turns back into soil, the soul is judged, and the spirit returns to God who gave it. Ecclesiastes 12:7 clearly says, “Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it”. Actually, everything that God created returns back to their source once they die. The birds of the air and the fishes of the sea returns to water, the animals of the field returns to the earth, all the plants and food crops returns to the ground. The body of man which was created from the dust of the earth would definitely return to the earth. The spirit also returns. Unlike the soul that is judged, they cannot be judged because they were just mediums.
This automatically means that there are only two parts of man that determines the value of man; his spirit and soul. Consequently, seeing that your soul was created by the spirit for a house, we must be deliberate about living our lives by the dictates of the spirit, and not our soul. Unfortunately, many people live life to satisfy their soul, not their spirit. Let me show you a few scriptures that will help you:
SCRIPTURE 1:
Romans 8(Amplified):
13. For if you are living according to the [impulses of the] flesh, you are going to die. But if [you are living] by the [power of the Holy] Spirit you are habitually putting to death the sinful deeds of the body, you will [really] live forever.
Look at that, I call it the danger of having a living soul. Even though the soul was given by the spirit, it is possible that it yields to living according to the impulses of the flesh. And if that happens, the death of purpose is inevitable.
The right way to live will therefore be as the Holy Spirit leads your spirit. Remember that the Holy Spirit bears witness with our spirit that we are sons of God. So if you live your life based on the principles received through your spirit, then you’d fulfill purpose.
SCRIPTURE 2:
John 6(NKJV):
63. It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.
You have to understand that God has designed how you should profit in this life, so trusting flesh to give you what you can only get through the spirit will end in futility.
You must feed from your source to survive. The body should feed on food from the earth, the soul should feed from the spirit that created it, and the spirit should feed from God that gave it. Many times, the reason why the soul of men lust about with mundane things is because their spirit isn’t feeding from God. If the spirit is feeding from God, the soul won’t hunger after an alternative. Also, if the feeding from the spirit is satiating, the soul won’t look elsewhere.
As I conclude, let your spirit rule over your soul. You’d live a more fulfilling life that way. Eat bread to sustain your body, but live by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of the Lord.
I hope this has brought enlightenment to someone.
Remain ever blessed, in Jesus precious name!
