“Pastor, I’ve been meaning to ask this question. What is it that believers have that unbelievers don’t. Because it seems they enjoy more than us”
I was hoping that someone would ask this question someday. Because frankly, some Christians live as though they regret giving their life to Christ. It shouldn’t be so.
Asides the various analysis that we may want to give on this matter, there’s just one major thing that differentiates a believer from an unbeliever; it’s called “eternal life”. John 3:16 clearly says “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have eternal life”.
The challenge however is, many believers do not know what eternal life really is. They think it’s life after death, or a life that secures heaven at the end of our journey here on earth. Well, eternal life isn’t just for life after our journey here on earth, it’s also for life here on earth. 1 Timothy 6:12 says, “Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses”.
If eternal life was restricted to life after death, the Apostle would not ask believers to fight the good fight of faith by laying hold on eternal life. So we have eternal life, which isn’t necessarily life after death, but abundant life here on earth. Anything that subjects you to depravity or makes you feel disadvantaged is challenging your eternal life.
Eternal life is the greatest form of life on this earth. It was given to us for distinction and to subdue resisting forces against our progress and well-being. It’s the very life that God dominates and lives by. It’s a life where God’s word reigns supreme, and God expects us to dominate and live by that life. Eternal life is a life of dominion, God may have commanded man to have dominion over the earth, but that would be impossible without laying hold on eternal life, a life where you express your faith in God’s word to dominate situations and circumstances.
Eternal life is the cure for the fear and confusion in this world. Just when you’re not sure of how your next meal would come, lay hold on eternal life. When your rent is due and you don’t know how to pay the rent, lay hold on eternal life. When you just got married and you remember that no woman has ever had a child in your family due to a curse, lay hold on eternal life.
This is the unmatchable advantage that believers have over unbelievers. The only reason why it sometimes appears as though unbelievers are doing better than believers is because believers are not desperate and passionate enough to lay hold on eternal life. That’s right! We’re not desperate enough to see the truth come to pass in our life. The people of the world are always desperate to see results, and that’s why they succeed. If we can apply the same level of desperation to our kingdom pursuits, our success will be unmatchable.
We’ve been told that right from the days of John the Baptist, the kingdom of God suffers violence, and any believer who is not desperate or forceful enough will not benefit from it.
How desperate are you? When Bishop David Oyedepo realized that the prosperity he was preaching wasn’t reflecting in his life, he went on a three day retreat to discover what is missing. That’s desperation at work! Some Christians have been complaining about their financial status for years now, yet they’ve not fasted for even one day to learn the secret of financial prosperity. Some others have learnt it, but they won’t subject themselves to the principles.
The people of this world know what sacrifices to make to get what they want, it’s only in the church that we think every thing is free. No! It’s only salvation that is free in this kingdom, everything else must be enforced. Bishop David Oyedepo returned empowered after that three days retreat, he was sure that he could never be poor. Today, he’s named the richest pastor in the world.
I don’t know about you, but I want to utilize my eternal life here on earth. I will never be in a place where an unbeliever who is my mate is doing better than me, never! That’s a challenge on my eternal life.
So start enforcing results. Read books, listen to messages, broading your operational knowledge of the kingdom. Practice the things you learn and see to it that they are working. If they’re not working, then you must have missed something in the learning process, so go back and relearn. Engage in a fast if you have to, but ensure that your life is a perfect interpretation of the life that God has reserved for us.
I hope this has brought enlightenment to someone.
Remain ever blessed, in Jesus precious name!
