“Pastor, when you give to the poor, how long do you wait before God pays you back?”
Let me guess, you probably read Proverbs 19:17. That scripture says, “He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again”.
The truth is, if that scripture says God will pay, then God will pay. You really shouldn’t worry yourself about when or how God pays. Personally, I don’t give to the poor because God will pay back, I give because God is faithful. If God didn’t sit on my neck before I gave, why do I need to keep a tap on Him to keep His Word?
King David said something very remarkable about God’s faithfulness in Psalm 37:25. That scripture says, “I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread”. Truthfully, if you’ve read the story of David from his youth, you’d also conclude that God is faithful to His word. If He has said something, then you can rest, because He will do it.
If the bible says “he that gives to the poor shall not lack”, then he that gives to the poor should not experience lack. If you do experience lack, then it’s most likely because you’ve ignored or rejected a business that should bring you income. I remember how I was suddenly running low on cash, I gave and gave until my account was almost zero. I was surprised because it had not happened in many years. I knew that God was faithful, so I didn’t bother asking Him if He didn’t reward me, I simply asked Him what I was doing wrong. Right there, He opened my eyes to something I had ignored in my business. The moment I reactivated it, people started contacting me for jobs. It was as though they’ve been on queue for a long time and couldn’t go elsewhere.
Many givers don’t understand this principle, God blesses the works of our hand. So the moment you give, go and work. Instead of waiting for God to pay you, go and work. Apply for a job, bid for a project, do something. Prosperity isn’t just for givers, it’s for givers who are doing something. If you are not a doer, you’re not permitted to prosper, no matter how much you give. You must do something!
I’m actually surprised that some people still wait for God to reward them for their giving. You may wait for God to reward your service, but not your giving. God is faithful, the moment you do your part, then He has done His, you just need to do something to manifest that which God has done. Let me show you a scripture:
Luke 6:
38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
Look at that; the moment you give, God commands men to give unto you. How else would men give unto you if it’s not through rendering a service or doing a business with them? Oh, perhaps you’re expecting that men would give you free money. Well, that’s also a possibility and it actually happens, but you can’t get a great harvest by free gifts, it has to come through payment for the value you give.
So, stop waiting, think of what to do. The moment you gave, God blessed the works of your hand. The reason why you haven’t seen the blessing is probably because you haven’t really worked.
If you’re a giver who only earns monthly salaries, I recommend that you think of a side business that you can do. The most you can get from that company may be a salary raise, or benefits here and there. There’s a greater harvest waiting for you when you own your business.
