“Pastor, I’m looking for a church where they pray very well, so that they can help me pray for my situation. What do you recommend?”

How do you know it’s prayer you need? Honestly, whoever taught us that prayer is the master key has done a lot of harm to the body of Christ. If prayer is the master key, where then would we put obedience of faith? Revelation has since changed the lock, obedience of faith is the new master key.

I receive alot of requests for urgent prayer in my DM, they range from prayer to be free from a wicked husband to prayer for a wife to return home to take care of the children she abandoned. Some request that I pray for their dying business, while some others ask me to pray for their church to grow. The question I ask myself each time I receive these requests is, “How did these people know that it’s prayer they need?”

What if their challenge is as a result of negligence to spiritual principles? What if they’re only suffering the effect of disobedience? Some of them will even tell you that God told them to do something they didn’t do and that I should pray for them because things are now very hard for them. For heaven’s sake, how do I pray about such a thing? What do I say to God? God told you to do something you didn’t do, yet you want me to pray to the same God on your behalf? The last time I checked, there are only 3 personalities that bares record in heaven, The Father, The Word, and The Holy Spirit. Emeka Anslem is not there. If at all anybody would intercede to the Father on your behalf, it’s Jesus our Mediator. But then again, how do you pray to a Jesus you don’t know?

Would it not be better to obey what God told you than looking for prayers to remedy the effect of your disobedience? Would it not be better to live in alignment to God’s word instead of looking for prayers to bail you out of something that disalignment caused? Would it not be better to seek counsel than to ask for prayer? Would it not be better to know exactly what to do to be free than having to depend on a prayer you’re not sure would work?

The greatest investment any believer would make would be to know God. Those who know their God hardly pray for personal troubles, their prayers are kingdom based. Think of Daniel, what was the content of His prayer for 21 days? Even when Jesus taught His disciples how to pray, the section where we’re to pray for our needs looked almost insignificant, but the sections for God and His kingdom had more weight. I believe that’s because if you give priority to the kingdom according to Matthew 6:33, your needs would be added to you even without praying for them.

Don’t get me wrong, prayer is communication between God and man for the purpose of having our needs met. God doesn’t want us to worry, that’s why He’s asked us to present our needs to Him in prayer. But read your Bible, the greatest of men used prayer to establish God’s kingdom, not for self. I’ve said this over and again, I don’t have a personal prayer point, I just pray for the kingdom. Each time I attempt to pray for a personal need, it sounds very strange in my ear. I wonder why I’m praying about something His Word already made provision for. All I need to do is do what His word says, and that’s all. And it has worked everytime.

If all they do in your church is prayer then you’d be spiritually dry. Consistent prayer may help you see visions and spiritual things, but it doesn’t mean you are spiritual. Spirituality isn’t measured by how well you can see visions, but how well God’s word finds expression in your life. There are many believers who see visions, they can tell you everything you’ve done this morning with precision, but you’d be amazed at the character flaws they have. Prayer alone cannot fashion a good Christian character, it is prayer plus the word. The prayer burns the word in your heart until the anointing in the word begins to flow all through your heart.

As I conclude, there’s nothing you’re going through that doesn’t have a solution in the word of God. While praying for you may be a good idea, receiving counsel from God’s word is a better way to start the deliverance process. Once the word enters, you’d have understanding, then the prayer can work more effectively. Remember, it is the entrance of the word that brings light, and gives understanding to the simple.
