“Pastor, the devil has been tormenting me over a sin I committed against God. I’ve repented and asked God to forgive me several times, but the devil won’t stop”
I’m not sure what you did, but the moment you repented and sought forgiveness from the Lord, you received it. Even if the devil took your matter to God’s court, your repentance and God’s forgiveness has overruled any judgment that he may have been using against you. This also means that if Satan is still tormenting you after your repentance, then it’s not a courtfare battle, he’s engaging in warfare. What I’m simply saying is, his torment against you is not legal, he’s probably using your ignorance against you.
I’ve taught us the difference between a courtfare and a warfare. In courtfare, we speak or make supplications to God based on His word about the situation. In warfare, we speak to or address Satan or the situation by the authority we have in the Word of The Lord. You need to know when to speak to your mountain and when to speak to your God. Don’t speak to God when you should be speaking to the mountain. Let me show you a few scriptures that would help you understand.
SCRIPTURE 1:
2 Corinthians 10:
4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds
5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.
One of the ways through which Satan engages us in warfare is through our mind. He’d make you believe that God is still angry with you, and that your sin was too great to be forgiven. As long as he succeeds in making you believe negative things about your God, then your faith cannot work. And if your faith isn’t working, there’d be no shield over your life.
Don’t forget that the bible charges us to take the shield of faith so that we can quench all the fiery darts of the devil. In warfare, the aim of the devil is to pull down your shield so that evil can flow through you to every area of your life. Suddenly you may hear that your business is having a challenge, or that your child is sick, or that your wife has been fired from her job. While you may think that those things are God’s way of punishing you, it’s simply a result of your shield of faith that was pulled down. False believe or wrong believe will always pull down the shield of faith, and that’s what the devil aims to do when he engages in warfare.
If that’s the case, do what verse 5 says, cast down imaginations and any high thought that exalts itself above the knowledge of Christ. You must put all thoughts or imaginations under scrutiny by the Word of God. If God’s word says contrary, then stick to God’s word. Declare what you believe in God’s word continually until your spirit man agrees with it.
That’s right! Sometimes even after asking for forgiveness, you may still feel unclean, it’s your duty to declare God’s word to your heart until your spirit man accepts it. It’s by our words that we are justified and it’s by our words that we are condemned. You can make your heart feel justified by speaking words to it.
Beware of letting your shield of faith down. Job didn’t understand this, the moment his shield went down, the devil was free to torment him.
SCRIPTURE 2:
1 John 1:
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
I heard a story of how a Naval Officer got into a fight with some Police Officers. It was so serious that the Naval Officer took the life of one of them. When the Police Patrol Team intervened, they had to arrest the Naval Officer and kept him in detention. As soon as he had the opportunity to call someone, he called his commander. Barely an hour later, a Naval troop visited that station, and without any negotiation, they demanded the release of their officer, and that was it.
We are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. Once we’re trapped in the web of sin and unrighteousness, it’s wisdom to call upon God through repentance and seeking forgiveness. The moment we seek forgiveness, He cleanses us from all unrighteousness. Just because we sinned or we have unrighteousness on us doesn’t mean we are unrighteous by nature. Unrighteousness is only an act that can be cleansed, our nature is righteousness. Just as the Police law cannot judge a Naval Officer, the law of sin cannot judge a righteous man. That’s why you have to seek forgiveness. If you don’t seek forgiveness, you’d be suffering what you should not be suffering.
Romans 14:4 says, “Who art thou that judgest another man’s servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand”. Look at that, you cannot judge another man’s servant. The best you can do is report him to his master and let his master handle him based on their law. Remember also that the law of the Spirit of life in Christ has made us free from the law of sin and death.
This is not a license to continue to sin. Although there’s no limit to how many times God can forgive you, but there’s a limit to how much His grace can work in your life. The bible clearly tells us that we cannot continue to sin and expect grace to abide. You may enjoy God’s mercy endlessly, but grace has a lifespan that is shortened by sin. Once grace is shortened, there’s not much you can do for the kingdom.
I hope this has brought enlightenment to someone.
Remain ever blessed, in Jesus precious name!
