“Pastor, I don’t want to make a mistake. How do I know that a person really loves God as he or she claims?”

This question may sound weird already, but painfully, not every believer loves God. Or, not many who claim to love God really know what it means to love God.

One of the greatest questions every believer must answer is, “What do you want to do for God?”. The answer you give will determine your love level for God. The response that many people have given to this question is that they want to impact the world for God. I receive phone calls from unknown people, ministers of the gospel especially, and this is always their heart desire, they want to impact the world for God.

While there may be nothing wrong with that desire, it’s clearly a desire that was birth from lack of understanding. There are movements I’m leading today that were never in my agenda. If somebody had asked Joseph for a prayer point the night before he was called to meet with Pharaoh, I’m certain that the breakthrough that came to him would never have been his prayer point. So If you ask me what I want to do for God, my answer would be in this simple lines, “I want to love God”. Think about it, there’s nothing else I’d like to do for God that He cannot do by Himself. When He looked for a man to bring salvation to the world and couldn’t find, the bible says His own hand brought Him salvation. When it comes to doing His will, He can easily raise stones to do them.

We know that prayer introduces God to the affairs of man. God restricted His operation on earth the moment He told man to have dominion over the earth, and prayer has been the channel through which God intervenes in the affairs of man. If you don’t pray, then don’t expect divine intervention. If you experience divine intervention without your personal engagement in prayer, then someone else must have prayed about it. Nothing divine just happens on earth, somebody must pray it.

Now this will shock you; love is more powerful than prayer. A good prayer life brings you into communion and fellowship with God, love brings you into union and marriage with God. A prayer warrior prays for things to happen, a lover waits upon the Lord. When the bible says, “They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings as eagles…”, it was referring to lovers.

Prayer warriors pray because a need has to be met, lovers pray because the kingdom has to be fully manifested. Think about it, a wife doesn’t have too many prayer points, her prayer points would always centre around the kingdom of her husband. That’s how you know a lover, he or she would be kingdom-minded at all times and in all seasons.

Matthew 6:33 is a literal invitation into a realm where love makes things happen. But unfortunately, many people have turned that scripture into a business. They go out on evangelism only because they want God to meet a need in their life. And I don’t blame them, that’s the understanding they got from that scripture. What they do is right, but the motive is mostly wrong. Winning souls into the kingdom should be an act of love towards God and man, but we’ve seen of recent times that it’s possible to be a soul winner and not have love for God. A thought of this hurts my heart deeply. I really desire that believers would truly love God.

At the point of love towards God, it’s not necessarily your prayers that introduces God to your affairs, it’s your union. Just as a man and a woman joins to become one flesh, a man and God can join to become one. Just as it is possible to be seeing a woman and be feeling the impact of the husband on her, it is possible for people to be seeing you and be feeling the impact of God, even without a single word of prayer.

1 Corinthians 2:9 is a very powerful scripture. It says, “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him”. What else can beat that kind of offer? My writing journey began on a platform of love and I still remember how I subscribed. Lovers are waiters; for 4 years I was writing a devotional without my name on it. And that’s because God told me not to. I’d see it being shared on different platforms and none of them would make reference to the person that posted it. I became as a horse owned by its rider and didn’t have a destination of its own. Even today, if you ask me where I’m going, I still don’t know. As at the time I subscribed many years ago, I also didn’t know where I was going.

In 2017, God began to unveil the things He had reserved. That was the year I wrote 27 books. Yes, 27 books were written in one year. These are things that eye hath not seen, neither had ear heard, it had never crossed the heart of man. I suddenly became someone that people invited for interviews. If you ask me how I commanded such feats, my answer will be simple, “the one I’m united with can do all things, including impossible things”. Not the one I’m praying to; prayer is powerful, but prayer alone can’t grant you such speed, it must be accompanied with love, an undivided love for God.

So check your heart. Do you really love God? Or are you just in for the benefits. I can tell why you’re in by the speed I see in your life. Lovers may experience delay, but it’s only because their Lord hasn’t made any move yet. And that’s why I said lovers are waiters. But hey, the moment their Lord makes the move, He can restore years. I wrote that daily devotional in God’s name for four years, and God empowered me to write books I couldn’t have written in four years in just one year. That’s the kind of speed I’m talking about.

I’ve always mentioned that there’s something you can know about the kingdom that can change your life forever, and I can tell you that this is one of those things. Love God! Love God! Love God! Abraham’s love made him the Father of many nations. Daniel’s love made him second in command in a whole nation. Joseph’s love made him relevant for decades. Job’s love made him the greatest man in his time. Solomon’s love made him the greatest king that ever reigned. None of them ever planned for such recognitions, but loving God qualifies you for exclusive blessings.

Here’s a word of caution; God lovers are never in a hurry, they are waiters. They’re also never selfish. They never do things for God for personal gains or needs. Lovers don’t go out for soul winning because they have financial needs or challenges that needs to be settled, they go out for souls because the kingdom needs to be established.

Lovers may have needs, but they are not needy. Paul had needs, but he never acted like one who had needs. While he was in prison, he needed all the love he could get, yet, he was still dispensing love by writing letters to the church. To him, going to be with God was more important than anything else. People who serve God for things have mentality issue. They’re not different from the prodigal son. Why would anybody be struggling for things that are fully theirs? As a genuine lover, I’m entitled to the kingdom. And God doesn’t need me to ask Him anything before He adds things to me. In fact, why do I even need to ask when I can just take.

To love God means “doing what God likes”, and what He likes are the things His word commands. 1 John 5:3 says “for this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and His commandments are not grievous”. If keeping God’s commandments feels too hard for you, then you need to check your love level.
