“Pastor, I’ve been praying to God about my marital destiny, but He keeps revealing things that are not related to marriage at all. What could this mean?”
Oh, that’s totally in the character of God. Jeremiah 33:3 says, “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not”.
I remember many years ago while I was praying for the church of Christ, the prayer was so intense that I could feel the energy in my heart. All of a sudden, I heard the voice of the Lord say, “I have made you my agent for transformation. You will be a bridge between ignorance and applicable knowledge”. That response had no correlation to what I was praying about. If I remember vividly, I was praying that God should expand the church into communities that were still unchurched.
While you may think that God didn’t answer my prayer, He actually did. But He did by revealing something I didn’t know I ought to be doing. That scripture says He will answer when you call unto Him, but He may also show you great and mighty things that you don’t know and that you ought to know. Most likely, it’s in doing that which He reveals that the answer to the primary prayer point will be manifested.
Only God knows how many unchurched people now go to church because they came in contact with my articles or my posts online. I remember meeting someone in Gospel Pillars Church when I went for a conference they hosted. This person told me that he started attending the church because he liked the messages of Dr Isaiah Macwealth – which I shared on my page regularly. He loved the messages so much that he had to locate the church and became a member. The gratitude in his heart that day was palpable, and he was so excited to see me.
Let’s observe the connection between my prayer and what God revealed. I prayed for the unchurched communities to be churched, God revealed that I should keep sharing applicable knowledge on my platform – either through writing or video excerpts. As I did, an unchurched person found a church – which is the manifestation of the primary prayer.
I know someone who has been attending Winners Chapel ever since I wrote an article about the need to attend the International Youth Alive Convention that year. I think I shared my personal experience in that article, and it captivated him. A year later when I wrote another article for the convention, he made a comment saying that it was because of my article in the previous year that he’s been attending Winners Chapel till now.
Don’t despise the things that God reveals to you when you pray. It may seem as though they don’t have a correlation with what you prayed, but they are great and mighty things – just as that scripture reveals. Doing them would definitely lead to the manifestation of your actual request.
Don’t shut out the Holy Spirit when you pray, be open minded. One of His assignment is to guide us into all truth. So whatever He reveals to you in the place of prayer is true, and something needs to be done about it. I also remember praying during the early hour of the day years ago, all of a sudden I heard God telling me to go and settle the dispute I have with a colleague in my office. What I was praying for had no connection with what God revealed. And to be honest, I could feel the Spirit of God as I prayed, so it wasn’t that my prayer was hindered because of that dispute. I had forgiven the man in my heart, so he couldn’t hinder my prayer. God wanted me to do that because He wanted to reveal something to that man through me – years later.
Let’s not put God in a box. His ways are higher than our ways, and His thoughts than our thoughts. Whatever He tells us to do in prayer, let’s do it.
I hope this has brought enlightenment to someone.
Remain ever blessed, in Jesus precious name!
