“Pastor, if Satan is the god of this world, how can believers be exempted from the wickedness in this world?”
First it’s important to establish how Satan became the god of this world. Man was the god of this world until Satan manipulated him. Satan understood the systems of God, he knew that once he could get Adam to disobey God and obey him, Adam would become a servant to him. The bible clearly tells us that we become a servant to whosoever we yield our body to obey. Also, anyone that sins is a slave to sin, and Satan is the father of sin.
Whatever a slave owns is given to his master, which in this case is dominion over the earth. In John 13:16 Jesus said, “A servant is not greater than his master”. Also, the Law of Moses says in Exodus 22:3, “…he (a thief) should make full restitution (for what he steals); if he has nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft.” When a man owes another man something that he can’t pay back, he must first start by giving what he has to his creditor. It could be possessions, lands, titles, etc. Then if his possessions aren’t enough to clear the debt, the only other way to pay back is by becoming a slave to the creditor.
In man’s case, the debt was so big that it affected all of Adam’s descendants. Adam couldn’t pay back the debt in his lifetime, so it carried over to his children, and his children’s children. It would have carried on from generation to generation for all eternity until someone could have paid back the value of what was damaged. The only way humanity could be bought back was by God sending His Son to buy us back from iniquity and purify us. “Who was Jesus buying people back from?” Their owner, Satan. Romans 5:19 says, “For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.”
After he took over man’s dominion, he became the new god of this world. He influenced and influences every single system that runs this world, even till date. Prior to this time, we’re told by the prophets of Satan’s fall from heaven. He had envy and discontentment within him, he wanted to dominate like God. Unfortunately, his desire didn’t last for long, he fell. Angels were created long before man was created, this means that Satan – who also was an angel, must have fallen before creation. This explains why he was able to gain access to man. He’s been in this world since he fell.
Taking over man’s dominion must have given him access to heaven again, because the next time we’d hear of him being in heaven was when the angels gathered to give God their reports. Job 1:7 puts it this way; The Lord said to Satan, “Where have you come from?” Satan answered the Lord, “From roaming throughout the earth, going back and forth on it”. God knew that Satan didn’t come to that meeting from heaven, but the point is, he had regained his access to heaven through some means. It was also during that session that God removed His hedge of protection upon Job just so that Satan could tempt him. All of that happened because Satan accused Job before God. That’s right, as at that time, Satan could accuse people before God, the bible actually calls him the accuser of the brethren. Once he notices that you’re untouchable on earth, he’d bring an accusation before God. If he wins, then God may give a verdict in his favour, just as He did against job. That’s where the subject of courtfare was introduced to the body of Christ. But as it is now, according to John’s revelation after Jesus resurrected, Satan has been cast out of heaven, him and all his angels. Let’s see how scriptures put it:
Revelation 12:
7 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels
8 And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.
9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.
11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.
13 And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child.
14 And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.
15 And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood.
16 And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth.
17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
Did you see that? So they couldn’t cast Satan out of heaven until the blood of Jesus was introduced. I can imagine the trouble Satan was causing in heaven, he was busy accusing God’s people day and night. No wonder there was so much suffering in the old testament.
But hey, according to verse 10, “Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ”. Once you receive Jesus as Lord and Saviour, then you’ve been translated into the kingdom of God, where an hedge of protection will be over you – such that Satan cannot touch you. Unlike when he still had access to heaven, he can no longer accuse you because he has been cast out of heaven. This further means that you don’t have anything to fear, calamity isn’t going to suddenly come on you like it did on Job. If any evil comes to you, then it’s because of your ignorance of your rights in Christ.
Verse 12 says that those that live in the kingdom of heaven should rejoice. However, those that live earthly lives should be ready for great trouble, because Satan has fully come down to the earth. He’s very angry, because he knows his time is short. The moment the earth is judged, Satan too will be judged.
Notice also how God protected the woman that gave birth to the savior from Satan’s persecution. That’s how He protects those who are in the kingdom. When Satan couldn’t touch the woman, he went after those who keep the commandment of God and have the testimony of Christ.
So you see, there’s no time to joke around or live a earthly life. Satan is after you, and if you’re ignorant of your rights in this kingdom of God, he will get at you cheaply. Ensure you continually practice kingdom principles, that’s the only way to stay within your cover. Satan is still the god of this world, but that doesn’t mean he has absolute dominion. We can make his dominion a mockery if only we would live by kingdom principles.
Read your Bible, everything Jesus taught his followers and his disciples are kingdom principles. Practice them, let them become your way of life. I really pity Christians who do not read their Bible.
I hope this has brought enlightenment to someone.
Remain ever blessed, in Jesus precious name!
