“Pastor, I can’t feel my faith right now, yet I have so much to do. What can I do to come alive in faith?

I’ve found 3 scriptures that will keep your faith alive for anything.

SCRIPTURE 1:

Hebrews 11:
1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

So it says, “Faith is the substance of things hoped for…”. There are many people who have lost hope, they really want to keep their hope alive, but there’s no substance to hold on to. There’s nothing, no sign to keep their hope alive.

Perhaps you’ve hoped for a child for so long, and year after year the sickle of your hope keeps fading. Perhaps they told you your husband had low sperm count and that it should be okay after 5 years. Now it’s ten years and it’s looking like the count even became worse. What the doctor said was the substance of your hope, and now that what the doctor said didn’t come to pass, there’s really no hope until you get a new substance – something to hold on to.

You may have graduated since 2010 and have done all you can to get to job. Someone recently promised you a job, and that promise suddenly gave substance to your hope, it enlivened your hope. You that had lost hope suddenly came alive in hope. Unfortunately, the person died and the only substance to your hope was gone. Once the substance is gone, hope is also gone.

This is why people commit suicide. They look back to see if there’s any thing at all that can give them hope, and when they don’t see any, they give up on life.

There’s a popular saying that “when there’s life, there’s hope”. Well, those who commit suicide think otherwise. The right thing would be, “Once there’s a substance, there’s hope”.

So that’s what faith does, it becomes the substance of the things you were hoping for.

SCRIPTURE 2:

Romans 10:
17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

A certain man was given a medical verdict that would end his life in months. Since the situation was hopeless, he returned to Nigeria to his people so that they’d bury him when he eventually dies. One of those days, someone invited him to church and the first thing he heard from the pastor when he got to church was “you shall not die but live”. And suddenly, his hope was enlivened. He heard something different from what the doctor had told him. He saw a possibility and was willing to go for it. Substance was given to his hope.

Faith comes by hearing the word of God. The man kept going to church and continued to hear words that were contrary to what the doctor said. Amazingly, the more he heard those words, the healthier he became. He had become so accustomed to hearing the word of faith that he crossed the time the doctor told him he’d die. It was only a year after that he even remembered that he was sick. He rushed to the hospital for a scan and to his amazement, the terminal disease had varnished.

Why did this happen?

THIRD SCRIPTURE:

Luke 1:
45 And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.

He believed the word he heard, it gave substance to his hope. And because he believed, it was performed.

You can trust in God’s word because of His track record. As long as you believe what you read or heard from God’s Word, then expect a performance, expect a testimony of what you believe. The doctor’s word may fail, but not God’s word. Faith does not only bring substance to your hope, it also becomes the evidence that you’d receive your testimony.

Abraham who clearly was against hope believed God’s word which activated hope. Let’s read that episode in Romans

Romans 4:
17 (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.
18 Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations; according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.
19 And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara’s womb:
20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;
21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
22 And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.

I lost my job in 2016 and considering the difficulty I went through to get that job, I lost hope to get another one. But my hope was restored when I began to receive God’s word concerning my career.

The first word I received was that God was thinking about me. Psalm 115:12 says, “The LORD hath been mindful of us: he will bless us; he will bless the house of Israel; he will bless the house of Aaron”. So despite the hopelessness I had built in my mind, God was thinking on how He would bless me. That created a substance for hope. That word encouraged me to look deeper into His word to know what He’d do concerning my job.

What I’ve become and what I’m becoming is traceable to my encounter during that period.

Some people distance themselves from God’s word when tribulations arise. They run from one big man to another to seek a way out. Haven’t you heard that God is a very present help in times of need? If God doesn’t help you, who will? Who can? Who’s help can be long lasting like His? Aren’t you tired of the disappointments?

Get back to your God. Trust in His word for you, it will not only restore your hope, it will also give you your testimony.
