“Pastor, I’m a military man and I get assigned to battles where I have to defend my nation. Do you think God will still accept me for the things I’ve done?”

Sure! Although the prophetic program of God is that when the fulness of His glory comes upon the church, nations will begin to find solace in the church, and one of the things that will happen is that there’d be no more war. There’d be no need for guns and swords, bombs and any form of weapon. Manufacturers of weapons will have to change their line of business because there’d be no war nor fear of war. Let’s see how scriptures put it:

Isaiah 2:
1 The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.
2 And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD’s house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.
3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
4 And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

Did you see that? When nations begin to depend on the church of Christ, weapons of war will be converted to instruments of work and feeding. I can only imagine what the world will be like without the fear of war.

But until then, soldiers will remain relevant to the peace and security of the nations of the earth. Today we hear all kinds of attacks that go on around the world, but thank God for the military that helps to control these attacks. Soldiers have always been used to protect and preserve, even from bible times. While you may think you’re only protecting your nation, you’re also protecting the church of Christ in your nation. It’s difficult for believers to worship the Lord in peace when there’s no peace in the land. You put your life at risk just so that the people in your nation can live peacefully.

However, just to ensure you’re on cause with God, John the Baptist gives a simple guide that I believe will help every soldier be in good terms with God. Let’s read from scriptures:

Luke 3:
7 Then said he to the multitude that came forth to be baptized of him, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
8 Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
9 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
10 And the people asked him, saying, What shall we do then?
11 He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise.
12 Then came also publicans to be baptized, and said unto him, Master, what shall we do?
13 And he said unto them, Exact no more than that which is appointed you.
14 And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely; and be content with your wages.

John was teaching them on how to live a life that is worthy of their repentance and they were touched by his message. Those who listened began to ask John what they needed to do, and he responded to the tax collectors alongside other people. When the soldiers asked, he told them 3 things:

1. Do violence to no man:
This is quite common among uniform men, they feel they can unjustly attack anybody and go free with it. A wrong use of authority will affect your stand with God. Let your operations be by the book.

2. Don’t accuse anyone falsely:
It’s common knowledge that many uniform men cook up stories just so they can punish someone they want to punish. Actions like this will definitely affect your stand with God.

3. Be content with your wage:
This one needs to be written in bold letters. Don’t do road blocks just to extort people of their proper good. Don’t use the fear of your uniform to rob people. This will also affect your stand with God.

As I conclude, a soldier that acts strictly under authority will have no problem growing spiritually.
