“Pastor, how do you study the Bible on a daily basis. Should I study randomly or from Genesis to Revelations?”

First, we must understand that the primary reason why the bible was written is so that we can know God, everything else you think about the bible is just a plus. I know that some Christians read their Bible religiously, while some just look for a scripture to quote; beyond all of that is an opportunity to know your God.

I remarked a few days ago that those who read the Bible just to look for a scripture to quote can’t truly know God. They may receive a breakthrough here and there, but they certainly would not know God by jumping on one bible verse to another – for relief or breakthrough.

It’s good to study your Bible to get breakthrough and relief, but more importantly is studying to align yourself with God. It is said that the moon does not have a light of its own, it just aligns itself in a position where it can reflect the light of the sun. If we can align ourselves properly in the word of God, we won’t need to be scouting for that one scripture for our bailout. Those who are properly aligned always reflect the light of God.

In one of Apostle Paul’s letter to his son Timothy, he made a very important remark about the bible that I believe every Christian should put into consideration when reading the Bible. Let’s read from scriptures:

2 Timothy 3:
15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

So clearly we see that the wisdom to maximize our salvation in Christ can only be gotten as we commit ourselves to studying the scriptures. Verse 16 goes ahead to reveal 4 things that the scriptures can produce; doctrine, reproof, correction, and instructions.

Doctrine in this sense simply means a mode of worship to God. Truthfully speaking, many Christians don’t know how to worship God in truth and in spirit. Just because you attend Sunday services doesn’t mean you worship God. Just because you sing beautiful songs to God doesn’t also mean that you’re worshipping Him. Worship to God has to be by the doctrine that He has stipulated, and there’s no way you can learn that except you read through the Bible from Genesis to Revelations. As you read, you’d come to realize how people who walked with God worshipped Him, you’d come to realize which one was acceptable and which one was not.

Asides doctrine, the scriptures can also caution you before you make a wrong move. To reproof simply means to give gentle counsels against faults, or simply put, to issue warnings of danger. Just incase you’re already in a fix, the scriptures can also correct situations. And lastly, it can give you instructions that will help you walk in the righteousness that Christ has given you. Don’t allow a worldly person instruct you on how to live your Christian life, read your Bible!

Having said all of these, it’s clear that the very place to begin your Bible study is from Genesis. That’s right, you need every detail from the very beginning. If you read from the beginning, you’d be able to know when certain policies or principles changed. For instance, many Christians still don’t know that Jesus gave up His office as God (The Word of God) to become the Son of God. He was God who made all things, but things changed when He decided to sacrifice Himself for us. He’s no longer God as we call Him, He’s now the Son of God. Some people call Him “God the Son”, but that’s just to satisfy their religiosity. As the Son of God, He’s also Lord of all, God literally put all things under His control – just as it was when He was called The Word of God.

But now He has a Father, whom He’s seated right beside in heaven. Jesus didn’t return to heaven as The Word of God, He returned as Jesus, the head of the church. Apostle Paul even reveals that in the end of times, Jesus would hand over everything that God put in His control back to God His Father. Read Apostle Paul’s epistles, he’d often start with “blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ…”.

Some of you start your prayer with “Father, in the name of Jesus…”, yet you argue that Jesus is the only God in heaven. If Jesus is the God, why do you start your prayer like that? There’s God the Father of our Lord Jesus up there in heaven, and there’s Jesus right there by His side. If you don’t believe this, then it’s because you haven’t read your Bible. Asides Paul’s epistle, Stephen literally saw Jesus standing at the right hand of God the Father in heaven. The mistake many Christians make is that during Jesus’s earthly ministry, he mentioned that he and His Father are one and that he was in the Father and the Father in Him. But that’s just like saying the Holy Spirit is in us. When Jesus completed his earthly assignment and was transformed into his glorified body, he was given a sit by the Father. You have to understand this.

The reason why believers pray to God the Father in the name of Jesus is because Jesus clearly told us that it would be the new order after His ascension.

The reason why there’s serious argument about tithing is because some people have failed to read their Bible from Genesis to Revelations. We have a new high priest, and the laws of this new high priest is different. He has already blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places. I pay tithe, not because it opens the windows of heaven and pours down blessing, but because I’m financially committed to the growth of the kingdom of God. As Apostle Paul puts it, as God prospers you in business, keep something in store for the advancement of the kingdom. In reference to Matthew 6:33, If you want God to add things to you, then you must seek His kingdom.

So read from Genesis to Revelations, stop crashing into diverse scriptures. If you discipline yourself to read one chapter of the Bible per day, you’d be done in two and a half years. Imagine if you can read more than two chapters daily.

As I conclude, when Jesus said “come and learn of me, my yoke is easy”, He wasn’t joking. If you’ve read the Bible, then you’d realize that His yoke is really easy.
