“Pastor, during Easter seasons like this, what do we expect to happen?”
Alot! After Jesus resurrected, He started appearing to people, especially those He worked with. Acts 1:3 says, “… He showed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God”. In other words, He kept on appearing to them for forty days, and continued to speak of things that concerned the kingdom of God just as He did before He was crucified.
John 8:31 tells us that He did all that just to prove that He was really alive, and that we could believe in His name. He even permitted Thomas to touch the wounds on His hand and body – just to clear the doubt that Thomas had; that was something He didn’t allow Mary Magdalene to do when she tried to embrace Him at the tomb where His body was kept.
If you have doubts that Jesus is alive, then welcome to your moment of proofs. If He appeared to His disciples for forty days just to prove that He is alive, then these forty days after His resurrection that we recently celebrated will be days of great proofs for you! Within these forty days, many of you who believe will experience divine visitations in certain areas of your life!
Jesus is truly risen and alive! The first phase of His mission had been completed, so He had to ascend to heaven with His glorified body to begin the process of the next phase of His mission. Perhaps you may ask, “Now that Jesus has ascended, how do we cope? Who will help and comfort us?”.
Peter and the other disciples also had the same worry. But before Jesus ascended, He told them that He wasn’t going to leave them comfortless, and that He’d send another Comforter, a personality that would represent everything He was to them while He was with them.
The first time He appeared to them after His resurrection, He gave them a measure of the Holy Spirit to forgive sins; but after He ascended, He sent down a great measure of the Holy Spirit to become witnesses of Him. His disciples even performed better after He ascended than before He ascended. And this was because they all possessed the personality of the Holy Spirit inside them. It’s more like saying, they used to have Jesus with them; but now, they have Jesus in them. When Jesus was with them, they encountered some impossible cases that Jesus had to intervene; but now that Jesus is in them, they just walk through those challenges like Jesus would do.
For instance, when Jesus was with them, they couldn’t calm that raging storm until Jesus rose up against it. They couldn’t heal that lunatic child until Jesus personally intervened. But after Jesus ascended and sent the Holy Ghost, their handkerchiefs and shadows were healing the sick and setting the captives free. When they met the crippled man at the Beautiful Gate, Peter and John were so convinced that they now had Jesus inside them when they said “Silver and gold I have not, but what I have I give unto you, in the name of Jesus rise up and walk”. If it was the time that Jesus was still with them, that case would have been impossible to them.
All along, Jesus knew that it was better for Him to go than to remain here. In John 16:7, He specifically said “Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you”.
Now that Jesus has sent The Holy Spirit, what can we accomplish with Him? Everything! Remember that this was the same Spirit that raised up Jesus from the dead. If this Spirit could enter into hell, empower Jesus to defeat the devil, and put His soul back into His body on the third day, then there’s no impossible case with this Spirit. Rom 8:11 tells us that “if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you”.
Did you notice the words “quicken your mortal bodies”? If the Holy Spirit could raise Christ from the dead, then He can empower your body to do whatsoever you’ve long desired to do. Who told you that you can’t get your wife pregnant? Who told you that you can’t get a good job or start a business? Who told you that you can’t get married?
You see, the verdicts from people are free to remain, but only as long as you’ve not permitted The Holy Spirit to quicken your body to undo those things. When The Holy Spirit quickens your body, accomplishing certain things will be done like a dream of the night. Remember how Peter escaped from prison, it was like a dream. Concerning the people of Israel, the bible tells us that when the Lord turned their captivity, it was like they were dreaming. When The Holy Spirit quickens your body to do things, impossible things are done in a twinkling of an eye.
Prior to the time that Jesus made us a witness by His Spirit, there were only three witnesses on this present earth; the water, the blood, and the spirit. These three witnesses were used to influence results and outcomes on earth. It was the spirit witness that Satan used to deceive Eve. It was the spirit that God used to influence men like Samson, Daniel, Joseph, and then prophets like Elijah and Elisha. It was blood that God used to atone for the sins of those who Satan had imprisoned, so that He can have legal access to bless them. The reason why we can all be saved once and for all today is because of the blood of Jesus – that pure blood.
We can go on and on, but the point is, witnesses influence results and outcomes in this present earth. Now that you are a witness by the Spirit of Christ, you have a responsibility to influence outcomes within the lives of individuals, families, communities, and nations. How can you be a witness, yet your neighbour is dying of hunger and sickness? You have what it takes to influence any outcome you want.
As I conclude, it’s time to leave your comfort zone. Go out there and be a witness that Jesus Christ is Lord. Whenever you encounter situations that are becoming too tough on you, ask the Holy Spirit to quicken your body to overcome them. Because with God, nothing shall be impossible.
I hope this has brought enlightenment to someone.
Remain ever blessed, in Jesus precious name!
