“Pastor, why do I have to beg God everytime for blessings. Can’t He just bless me without needing to ask?”
I’m guessing you mean you always get into a shameful or embarrassing situation before God comes through for you. If that’s the case, then it’s either you’re not properly aligned to His will, or you’re under training. Let me explain both of them.
– ALIGNMENT
God created us to enjoy abundant life. Although Satan sabotaged that plan through deception, but Jesus came to restore God’s desire of abundant life for man. If life is hard on you, then it’s definitely because you’re not walking in alignment with God’s purposes for a struggle-free life. Let’s see how scriptures put this in Matthew chapter 6.
Matthew 6:
25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
So verse 25 gradually begins to reveal the purpose of the believer. A believer’s life decisions should not be predicated on his personal needs. That’s right! Don’t worry about what you’d eat, what you’d drink, what you’d wear, where you’d live, the car you’d drive, the woman or man you’d marry, the place you’d work or the business you’d do. God is not saying you shouldn’t do all those things, He’s just trying to communicate purpose to you. If you notice verse 33, you’d realize that God is committed to providing all our needs. However, we’d have to walk in purpose first, and that purpose is to make kingdom advancement a priority in our life.
God is not saying you shouldn’t get a job, He’s just saying you shouldn’t get a job because of “self”, and that’s because anybody who pursues a desire because of “self” is clearly worried about something. The reason why many believers work night and day is simply because of “self”. Remember how that rich man became sad after Jesus told him to sell all he had and give to the poor if he wants to follow Him? The reason why the average man wants to accumulate wealth is simply because of “self”.
If you still don’t believe me, tell your colleague to resign from his job, the next thing you’d hear is “how do I feed?”. While it’s a good thing to be responsible, thinking that your job is the only reason why you have food on your table shows that you don’t understand God’s purpose for you. That’s putting your trust in flesh, and it’s always a woe to those who put their trust in flesh. This also reveals why you always get into an embarrassing situation before God comes through for you by His mercy.
Verse 26 of that scripture tells us to observe the lifestyle of birds, they don’t sow and reap like we do, they don’t have bank accounts or savings like we do, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. As long as they continue serving their purpose which is to keep flying in the firmament, then God is committed to providing for them. Many believers have not realized that living according to God’s purposes is also a form of work, and as long as you’re working for a master, then the master would pay.
How would you feel if something you created is malfunctioning? You’d probably do all you can to ensure that your creation realign to your purpose for you, and that’s because you know deep down that it will struggle outside its purpose. This is why many believers struggle, they’re outside the purpose of God for them. Your purpose is to give kingdom advancement a priority in your life, and all things shall be added to you.
That’s right! According to verse 33, believers should enjoy addition of things, not struggle for things. Can you point to five things in your life that God added to you? Not things you struggled or labored to get. There’d definitely be a clear difference between what your hard labour got for you and what God added to you. There are many things I have today that were clear additions to me from God. Even if I was to pray for or about them, I wouldn’t know how to present the prayers to God. Some of them may not have even crossed my mind. I’ve received divine ideas that were clearly given to me by God.
Bishop David Oyedepo has often shared how he got his first aircraft. He was in a service ministering when he suddenly heard God say “it’s time to get the aircraft”. God didn’t say it’s time to buy; rather, He said it’s time to get. According to the Bishop, they took a quick offering in church that day – which obviously would not buy one tyre of the aircraft, yet, the aircraft arrived. He has also shared the story of how some of his pastors proposed that they should start praying about their life partner, He responded saying “God will add it to me when it’s time”. Truly, when it was time, God showed him his wife.
God truly adds things to those who are serving His purpose, and if it’s an addition from God, you won’t struggle to get it. I remember when I published my first physical book. Before that time, people have proposed that I published my books before they lose market value. I knew deep down that I was serving the purposes of God and that God will add that to me. True to God’s word, I was in church one morning when I suddenly heard His voice saying “it’s time to publish one of your books”. I didn’t have a budget for it, the money in my account wouldn’t have published the volumes I published, yet the book was published. The more shocking part was that the people who had read the book online for free still bought several copies.
As I often tell my students, what you earn from your job should be channeled towards kingdom advancement first, then you can plan for yourself with what’s left. If you can’t do this, then you have little faith like verse 30 says. You don’t believe that God can add all your needs to you.
Let’s challenge our faith in the word of God. Prove God’s word in your life. Apostle Orokpo Michael shared a story of how he had just received his NYSC allowance. While in church, the pastor preached on first fruit, and according to him, he was compelled in his spirit to drop the entire allowance as first fruit. Ofcourse as a corper, he had nothing to fall back to. But to his amazement, before he got home that day, someone had sent him money, even more than the allowance he drop as first fruit. Please, let’s prove the Word of God in our lives, it works.
– TRAINING
If it’s training, then you must understand that from the time of John the Baptist, the kingdom of heaven has been forcefully invading the earth, and only those who are forceful get results.
There’s nothing about the kingdom of heaven that doesn’t suffer resistances or even afflictions. Apostle Paul even reveals seven levels of afflictions that attempts to seperate believers from God. Let’s see how scriptures put it:
Romans 8:
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
While you’d think that God will not allow all these things come to you, He actually allow them so that you can be built. Apostle Paul calls it glory in affliction.
You know what? There’s still so much to reveal on this point, so please permit me to cut the article here and continue tomorrow – seeing that it’s already too long.
I hope this has brought enlightenment to someone.
Remain ever blessed, in Jesus precious name!
