“Pastor, someone told me to always pray to the gods of the sea and the gods of the air anytime I’m traveling by air or water, and not Jesus. He explained some things that made it so real, and it’s troubling my heart. What do I do?”

I think the first thing you should do is have a good laugh🤣😂…I’ve also seen a number of these people online, and the conviction in their voice shows that they know what they’re saying. In fact, an uninformed believer may even fall for their deception, seeing that they have proofs of what they are saying.

Even as Christians, we’re not ignorant of these things. My concern is that these people that talk down on the name of Jesus in comparison to their water god are probably not aware that even in the bible, we have records of sorcery and vain religions. Right from the book of Genesis, the subject of other gods was very lucid. In Exodus 12:12, God executed judgment against the gods of Egypt. When Moses went up the mountain for forty days, the children of Israel reverted to their idols, idols that represented gods in this world.

Scripture further reveals to us that there are angels that left their first estate to take over territories that they were not assigned. After Jesus ressurrected, we’re told that Satan and his angels fought against Gabriel and they didn’t prevail. They were cast out of heaven and cast down into earth until judgement day when God will send them to the lake of fire. John also fore-warned the citizens of earth because Satan has been cast down and he is very angry.

So as a Christian, I’m not oblivious that some fallen angels have taken over certain territories to gain some earthly relevance, but I also know that all power belongs to God. The god or demon that will take my life on land, air or sea has not been born, not when Jesus is in charge of my life. The last I checked, Jesus has the keys of hell and of death, so even if I get involved in an accident, I’d still come out unhurt.

Jesus humiliated the gods of water on many occasions; first he rebuked the storm in the sea, and secondly he walked on water. When Peter was drowning, he lifted him up. When that storm arose in the sea and Jesus rebuked it, he also commanded the sea to be at peace. Whilst he was done, he was upset with the disciples because it was something they could have easily done with their faith in him. They’ve been with him long enough to be able to dominate the earth. Let’s see how scriptures put it:

Mark 4:
35 And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.
36 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.
37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?

Traditionalists may tell you that a storm isn’t a natural thing, it’s a sign that the gods of the sea are angry. If they say that the gods of the sea were angry at Jesus at that time, I’d agree because he had really terrorized the kingdom of darkness. Despite their anger and storm, a simple rebuke from the Lord Jesus put them in their place. I was even amazed to see that Jesus commanded the sea to be at peace. In other words, he dealt with two different gods as it were; the gods of the air and the gods of the sea.

Seeing that he was upset that they feared the storm, it simply means that every person who is joined with Christ has power and authority over the waters. If the gods of the waters held their peace when Jesus spoke, then they should hold their peace when we speak. That’s the simple meaning of Jesus’s reaction to his disciples.

We forget that God’s initial plan was for man to have dominion over the earth, which included the waters. Ofcourse when Satan beguiled Eve, that dominion was transfered to him until Jesus came and restored it back to us. Knowing that man was not only dealing with physical things, he finetuned the dominion to include dominion over spirits. Man initially had dominion over things, but now, we also have dominion over spirits. This truth is all over scriptures.

Jesus demonstrated dominion over spirits severally. It was normal to catch fishes during the night season, but Peter toiled all night and couldn’t catch a fish. As soon as Jesus spoke, the waters were obedient, enough to move fishes into Peter’s net. So whether we’re dealing with nature or spirits behind nature, we have dominion over them. Jesus came to ensure that demons or the gods of this world do not hinder our dominion in any way.

Even before Jesus came, those who believed in God displayed authority over nature. When those three Hebrew boys were thrown into fire, the fire couldn’t even burn their cloths because there was a fourth man with them. Hungry lions couldn’t eat Daniel because his God stayed their mouth. Prophet Elijah commanded that it would not rain for 3 years and it did not. The same Prophet called down fire from heaven to swallow up water.

I would have shared several testimonies of how Jesus delivered people that called upon him both in the sea and on air, but I’m sure we’ve heard many of them too. Someone was drowning deep into water and managed to call the name of Jesus in his mind, according to him, he saw a mighty hand pull him out of the water and brought him to the shores. Another brother testified of how his plane crashed and he found himself a few meters away from the crash location, still on his chair and his seat belt on.

I really don’t know why I should appease water gods when I know the One whom all power has been given. Asides that I know Him, He has graciously given me a right to use that same power to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the powers of the devil, such that nothing shall by any means hurt me.

I heard a man of God saying that only Senior prophets can command the water and the air, and that members of churches should always seek the consent of their man of God before they make certain trips. I really don’t know which bible verse he got that from, but the only qualification you need to stop the powers in this world is the name of Jesus, which is available for your use once you receive Him as Lord and Saviour of your life.

Finally, let your hearts not be troubled. If you believe in Jesus, then you’d not only do the things that He did, you’d even do greater. If He humiliated water many times, then you have to believe that no sea can take your life.
