“Pastor, I’m so worried about many things. How do I deal with this worry in my heart?”

Let me guess, you’re worried about something relating to your physical life. Right?

That’s okay, but the only challenge is that if your affection for earthly things get you worried, it may affect your spiritual life, even without knowing. I believe this is one of the reasons why Apostle Paul forewarned us in Collosians 3:2 to set our affection on things above and not things on earth.

But sure, let me show you a few scriptures that will help you deal with the worry in your heart:

SCRIPTURE 1:

1 Peter 5:
7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

That’s right! God cares for you, but you wouldn’t be able to enjoy that privilege if you’ve decided to care for yourself. That’s what you do when you worry, “you care for yourself”.

God only begins to care when you’ve casted “all” not “some” of your cares on Him. You can’t half your worries before God, you either cast all or carry all. I remember a story Kenneth Hagin shared about a woman who came to him for prayers, and her exact prayer requests was that God should help her carry half of her problems while she handles half. Kenneth Hagin tried to convince her with this scripture but she kept insisting that she didn’t want to overwhelm God with her problems. Long story short, she refused Kenneth Hagin’s counsel and left with her problems. It wasn’t long before she passed away.

This has affected many Believers around the world, they don’t understand that their sustainance in this world is not in themselves, but in their Creator. Psalm 55:22 says this better. It says, “Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved”.

SCRIPTURE 2:

Philippians 4:
6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

So that’s how you cast your cares on Him, by prayer. When God says be worried for nothing, then He means “nothing”. Not your family, not your job, not your business, not your health, not your children. He can take care of all those things if you present it to Him in prayer.

SCRIPTURE 3:

Psalm 46:
10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

After you’ve prayed, be still. Being still is a posture that communicates peace, that despite what is happening, all things will work together for your good.

Remember how Jesus was asleep when the storm was raging. That’s the level of stillness that is expected from us. It was His experience that also taught us that once we walk in obedience to God’s word, the situations confronting us also obeys the word. In Mark 4:39, it was the same thing He was practicing that He told the raging sea. That scripture says, “And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm”.

There’d always be a great calm once you’ve been able to enter that state of stillness.

SCRIPTURE 4:

1 Timothy 6:
12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

I think this is the most important part of this message. We have eternal life, which isn’t necessarily life after death, but abundant life here on earth. Anything that makes you worry is altering your eternal life.

Eternal life was given to us for distinction and to subdue resisting forces against our progress and well-being. Eternal life is the very life that God dominates and live by. It’s a life where God’s word reigns supreme, and God expects us to dominate and live by that life.

Eternal life is a life of dominion, God may have commanded man to have dominion over the earth, but that would be impossible without laying hold on eternal life, a life where you express your faith in God’s word to dominate situations and circumstances.

Eternal life is the cure for fear and confusion. Just when you’re not sure of how your next meal would come, lay hold on eternal life. When your rent is due and you don’t know how to pay the rent, lay hold on eternal life. When you just got married and you remember that no woman has ever had a child in your family due to a curse, lay hold on eternal life.

If you can successfully practice these 4 scriptures, then worry will be far from your life. I pray that my God will make all things work together for your good!
