“Pastor, I give alot, but I recently discovered that it is only when I am running low on cash that God comes through for me. Why can’t He just bless me as I give?”
This is actually a peculiar case among givers – especially those who increase what they give regularly, it gets to a time when the harvest of their seeds doesn’t come as it used to. They’d scarcely get favours, or even business deals. However, when they are about to enter into a challenge, a breakthrough happens that resolves or averts that challenge.
The reason why the breakthrough happens is because God will hardly allow a genuine giver go down. So even though He’s not responsible for the inconsistent harvest that you’re experiencing, His mercy will sustain you until you find a way out of the harvest situation.
Let me guess, you’re probably wondering what else could be responsible for the situation if God is not responsible for it, right?
Faith! That’s right, it’s a faith problem. The revelation you have about receiving from God has most likely become stale or insufficient. When revelation becomes stale or insufficient, a lot of negativity will set in. You who used to give with so much courage and confidence before will suddenly have fear and doubt. You who never considered what you’d fall back to when you give suddenly worries about how you’d have to manage after giving.
When you begin to sense doubt and fear as a giver, insufficiency of revelation is at work. The insufficiency of a giver doesn’t start when his bank account is low, it starts when his revelation about giving and receiving is lower than his present level. We understand from Proverbs 10:24 that if we faint in the day of adversity, our strenght is small.
The low harvest you’re experiencing is simply a statement that there’s insufficiency of revelation, not insufficiency of money in your account. A true giver has never considered the money in his account to fall back to, he knows that even if he scatters and distributes all he has, he’d still receive. He also knows that even if he casts all his bread upon the waters, he’d find it after many days. You have to believe me; the moment a giver starts becoming worried of his harvest, revelation is running dry.
I increase what I give to the kingdom every year. As we speak, 35% of my incomes goes into the kingdom of God. It was 30% last year. Asides the 35% that I give, my weekly worship offering is sixty four thousand Naira. As far as I can remember, I never experienced delay in harvest last year. But this year, for some reason, I started getting worried about how much I have to fall back to. It’s almost as though I was giving everything out😂. And yes, it started affecting my harvest. Honestly, sometimes it amazes me how spiritual things work. I who used to walk in abundance became more cautious with my spending. Ofcourse I didn’t default in my givings, but I wasn’t getting a harvest that was commensurate with my givings.
So one of those days I was teaching on how Jesus promised to send us another Comforter – in the person of the Holy Spirit. I understood how Jesus comforted his disciples when he was with them, they never had a down time with him. Everything was working for them. In fact, one of the stories that touched me most was the case of the storm that arose while they were in the boat. They simply asked Jesus, “don’t you care that we perish?”. Instantly, Jesus arose and calmed the situation.
If The Holy Spirit is my Comforter, then He certainly cares for me, He doesn’t want me to perish. When I understood that, I simply said the same thing to the Holy Spirit, adding that He should bring business deals my way. Instantly, I started getting phone calls. Now instead of worrying about what to fall back to, I’m assured that the Holy Spirit cares for my finances and He’d ensure that harvest comes as it should. In fact, I’ve been getting phone calls of favour since that day.
As I conclude, let’s remember that the just shall live by faith, and faith is the name giving to the actions birthed from our conviction about God and His Word. The moment doubt and fear sets in, then you’ve become double minded, and a double minded person is unstable in all his ways. Let your mind operate in faith at all times, and don’t mix it with fear. Once you notice fear or restrain, go and study more to boost your faith.
I hope this has brought enlightenment to someone.
Remain ever blessed, in Jesus precious name!
