“Pastor, I work very hard, yet I don’t earn enough. When will my hard work payoff and produce real wealth for me?”

I think you may have misunderstood the principle of financial prosperity in this kingdom. But don’t worry, i’d show you 4 scriptures that will bring you up to speed. It’s a very long read though, you might want to use your seat belt.

SCRIPTURE 1:

Ecclesiastes 9:
10 Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.

Honestly speaking, the principle of working hard to get wealth in this world is overrated. When it comes to attaining wealth, you don’t just work hard, you work with your might.

To work with your might means to work with your power, strenght, force or influence. Your might is measured by the value you can bring and the influence or power you have to give that value. The children of the world understands this, and that’s why they build relationships with people of influence, people who are a force to reckon with.

We all know that skill or talent is not enough, you need opportunities to showcase what you can do. And most times, you need something or someone that can influence people to give you an opportunity.

For the children of this world, they reach out to prominent people to help them, but for we who are in the kingdom, we have God to influence people to give us opportunities or even favour us. Gideon’s experience will grant us a better understanding to this. Let’s read from scriptures:

Judges 6:
12 And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him, and said unto him, The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.
13 And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the LORD be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt? but now the LORD hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.
14 And the LORD looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee?

So while you’re thinking that God has been unfair for not giving you more customers, the real problem is that you never executed the jobs you previously received with your might, you probably did it with skill alone. There wasn’t a touch of God in it. Just because you created a beautiful business proposal doesn’t mean you’d get the contract, skill alone is not might, and the bible says you must do it with your might.

Gideon didn’t realize that beyond his skills, he also had a might. The moment he understood, his results changed.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying we can’t have human influences, afterall Joseph requested that the two palace servants who were sent to prison should remember him. And as we see in scriptures, it paid off at the end. Ofcourse it was God who orchestrated the dream that Pharaoh had, but God still used that palace servant to validate our need for influential people in our lives, people who stand before kings.

So from today, no matter what you do, even if it’s shoe polishing, do it with your might, not just your skill. When you deliver a job, also accompany it with prayer and scriptural declarations. If water could turn to wine on its way to the chairman of the occasion, then imagine what your product or service can turn to with faith in God.

SCRIPTURE 2:

Deuteronomy 28:
12 The LORD shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.

So this scripture validates the first. God blesses the works of our hand, which also means if there’s no work, there’s nothing to bless.

According to scriptures, it’s the blessings of God that makes rich, not the type of work. I once shared the testimony of the office cleaner who was able to build a house with the N20,000 Naira she was earning. Yet, her manager who earned far more than she was earning still lived in a rented apartment. The difference is the blessing, not the type of work, or job position.

SCRIPTURE 3:

1 Timothy 6:
17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy.
18 That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate.

For a very long time I thought this scripture was referring to rich folks in the kingdom, but then the Lord opened my eyes to see deeper. Yes it began by talking to rich people, but also told us that nobody should trust in uncertain riches.

Have you ever been in a situation where you wished you had money so that you could do a particular thing? I guess we all have; but the mistake we make is that we didn’t realize that God does not only give money, He gives us all things richly to enjoy. He can give you exactly what you need. So instead of trusting in uncertain riches, trust in the living God who gives us all things richly to enjoy. Wishing you had money before you do something doesn’t really communicate trust in God.

So the reason why you’re not rich in good works or you don’t do good things is not because you don’t have riches, but because you don’t have trust in God. Jesus fed multitudes twice with only very little resources. Insufficiency is not an issue with God at all. If you have an issue with insufficiency, then you haven’t understood the Lord.

That scripture concludes with a powerful kingdom financial principle; it says, “ready to distribute, willing to communicate”. You need these two to grow financially in this kingdom, unfortunately, most believers practice either of them, not both.

A missionary visited Bishop David Oyedepo on foot in the early days of his ministry. And when the missionary was going back, Bishop Oyedepo told God that if He had a Beetle car, he would give it to the missionary. Barely minutes after the missionary left, someone gifted Bishop Oyedepo with a Beetle car. According to him, the key had not even landed in his hand when he told his staffs to pursue after the missionary with the car. He was ready to give a car, and when the car came, he was willing to distribute.

Many Christians claim they are ready to do big things for the kingdom of God, but when God brings that thing to them, they’re unwilling to distribute it. And that’s why the blessing stops flowing.

I heard the testimony of a man who purposed in his heart to purchase a sound system for his local church. And because he was ready, he went to construction sites and labored with them, carrying blocks daily for a token. When the money was sufficient to buy the sound system, he was willing to communicate. Today, I hear he has two block industries.

In 2017, I told God that I was ready to give Him 200 Naira every Sunday as my worship offering and that I was also going to double my offerings every year. The first 200 Naira I gave as offering that year was the change I got from errands. It wasn’t a single note, it was in pieces of hundred, fifty, twenty, and ten Naira notes. I could have used that money for something else during that week, but I saved it for my worship offering. I was ready. And when the time came to release the offering, I was willing.

SCRIPTURE 4:

2 Corinthians 9:
6 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.
8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good Work.

While readiness and willingness to give is important, the measure of what you sow also matters. If I’m still sowing 200 Naira offering every Sunday, I’d probably remain in the position I was in 2016, but I kept multiplying my offerings times two every year. The more I sowed, the more I got. What you sow is what you’d reap. If you sow your spare money, then you’d get spare returns. If you sow bountifully, then you’d reap bountifully. So don’t tell me you don’t get big favours when all you sow is your spare.

Finally, God is able to release the grace for financial fortune upon you, but the condition is that you take only what is sufficient for you, then use the rest to do good works. The grace for financial fortune doesn’t work on selfish people.

There are so many examples I can give, but I don’t want to take more space here.
