HOW TO HEAR GOD’S VOICE CONCERNING A SITUATION
Pray! And as you pray, watch! One of the greatest value of prayer is the sensitivity it gives to our spirit man. The more you pray about a particular thing, the more sensitive you’d become about that thing. You couldn’t have been praying to God about one thing for a month and not have heard from Him or at least received a signal.
Unfortunately, many believers do not understand this, they go about doing things that could distract them instead of watching and being in the spirit to see what the Lord will say. You can’t be playing computer games or even go out with friends while you’ve been praying to God to show you the kind of business you should go into. If you’re praying to God about something serious, then your mind should be in it with all seriousness. You should be in a sober state until you’ve received the signal you’re waiting for. You have to be serious about it. Read books, do a research, just do something in alignment to what you’ve prayed for.
1 Peter 4:7 says, “But the end of all things is near: so be serious in your behaviour and keep on the watch with prayer”. In other words, when the need for a thing is near, you have to be serious in your behaviour as you continue to pray about that thing. You can’t be praying to God about who to marry among the men in your life yet you keep collecting gifts from all of them. If you do that, then it means you’re not serious about God showing you who to marry. No man wars and entangles himself with the affairs of life. The process of making certain life decisions is like engaging in a war, you can’t be entangling yourself with the affairs of life while you’re in that process.
Read your Bible, those who heard from God were always in the spirit. And being in the spirit in this sense can simply mean disconnecting from anything that distracts your spirit man from an on-going project with God. Apostle John said, “I was in the spirit on the Lord’s day and I heard…”. So if you haven’t heard God since you’ve been praying about that matter, then it’s probably because you’ve not been serious about it.
Habbakuk 2:1 says, “I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved”. That’s how to behave when you’re praying about critical matters, be serious!
So prayer activates our spiritual senses and makes us more sensitive to God’s voice and direction. If you pray and then go and play, you may not hear God; but if you pray and maintain a state of seriousness, possibly studying about what you’re praying for, your spiritual senses would become more alive to receive from the Lord.
As I conclude, it’s not that God doesn’t communicate with us, it’s just that we play when we should be serious. When it comes to spiritual things, just as joy is needed to enjoy God’s presence, soberness is needed to receive direction from God. You have to learn how to balance both.
I hope this has brought enlightenment to someone.
Remain ever blessed, in Jesus precious name!
